I am so wanting some sort of ATG gun. I see so many posts but I get so confused on which one I should purchase and which size? I also see that thetapedepot.com has one, but not sure if I should try it or just use a coupon @ jo's or Mike's to get an actual ATG. I need some direction.
I'm sick of my cards and crafts coming apart. I do cards, scrap, paper crafts of all sorts. Also is it then good to buy refills from tapedepot or not. Need help, Thanks all!!
I have the ATG and tape from tapedepot and I love it. No complaints. It sticks and sticks so well that once it is down, I cannot pick it up to adjust it without tearing my cardstock.
Ahh thanks! Can you tell me does it only take one size of adhesive or different? How wide is yours. I almost ordered the tapedepot one, but chickened out. Thanks for the feedback!
I have the 1/4 inch adhesive, but I think it does take the 1/2 inch as well. My recommendation would be to contact them, because from what I hear their customer service rocks.
I think that answered your question...you were basically asking about the width of the adhesive, right?
Feel free to ask more questions as you need to. I have been through 6 rolls of tape in 3 months (I make a lot of cards) and I love my gun!
Not sure, although I don't think so because many people have had to get them at framingsupplies.com for the Scotch brand.
I went with Tape Depot because the gun & 12 rolls of tape cost $43 shipped, which was cheaper than the name brand gun. I just could not justify $50 for a tape gun alone.
I have the 3M ATG 714 and use the 1/4" adhesive. I have had it about 2.5 years and have not had any problems except 1 that was operator error ( I loaded the refill roll incorrectly). I love this ATG.
My sister owns a frame shop and has used the yellow ATG that uses the 1/2" adhesive in her business for many years. I have used her gun and I find that the 1/4" one is much easier to control on small areas. If I think I need a wider row of adhesive I can just lay down 2 strips.
I have no experience with the Tapedepot gun or adhesive.
God Bless you guys! I love the feedback and think I will have to save up and buy the tapedepot one. Does it come with the 12 refills? No matter what the price is just right! That's awesome! I'm glad it's 1/4" too.
Thanks all!
The Tape Depot one is $25 with no refills, $43 with. Since they have free shipping for order over $35, I took advantage and ordered the gun and the tape for $43!
Just a word of warning, when you order, the default for the tape comes up as buying a case of tape. It is a drop down box, just drop it down and you will see the 12 roll sub-pack option.
The 714 is a Scotch Brand. The ATG 50 is generic from what I can tell.
There are obvious differences: the colors, the shape, the price.
Also, the 714 has a piece of plastic that goes over the dial where your used tape backing rolls. I have not had a need to have that piece of plastic. I notice on mine when the used backing rolls, it might not look so pretty come 3/4 of my tape rolled, but the cover of the ATG keeps it from getting out of control. If were to break or not work, you would just tear the used part off and re-thread it on the spool. I have actually done this to experiment and it works fine.
They are both around the same weight, give or take an ounce.
I found the best prices here. It is less expensive than the tape depot and I have heard the customer service is fantastic. I got this info from another message board. I just ordered the 1/4" and 1/2" 7502 tapes as I own both the red and yellow ATG guns. I couldnt scrap without them.

I just went on both websites and looked. The ATG and the tape are within a penny of one another at both places. Did I miss something? Is there a special or coupon somewhere? Do share!!
Also, does the other company give free shipping like Tape Depot does for order over a certain amount? I could not see that on their site, but I may have missed it.
I have both. Got The Tape Depot one when 3M was having problems with their 714. I, personally, like the 714 better (Have the newiest version. Got it just before Christmas and it works really well.) but like The Tape Depot tape better. I don't like the way the used tape liner in the generic one wads up in the storage area. After awhile, it becomes attached to the 'new' tape and then you have to cut the tape, remove the mess and then rethread. The adhesive started leaving gummy residue in the storage area so I had to clean it out with Goo Gone. In the 3M ATG, the plastic cap on the uptake spool keeps the waste neater (wound on the uptake spool). As I said, this is just my opinion. Also, now I am having trouble with uptake spool of the generic one. It isn't winding the waste properly so the liner attaches itself to the new tape. (I think I have it threaded correctly. I referred to a photo someone attached to a response to another ATG thread here. The instructions that came with The Tape Depot ATG were not in English, had to 'read' the pictures.) It isn't fun when every 2 swipes you have to open the tape storage area and redue the threading. Have been in contact with The Tape Depot for help to resolve this problem. Since I have it, I would like to use the generic one also.

I am sorry. I dont know about "free shipping" on the sites I posted. I do know that a dozen rolls of the tapes were less expensive and shipping was about the same as Tape Depot. I like to buy the tapes in boxes of 12 so I went with the Armel Co. I just always feel like I am getting "ripped off" on Ebay No clue why, this is just my wacky brain on overdrive.

I just checked it out...The tape is $3 less per dozen if you get it from Armel. They have really nice Customer Service, too!
Has anyone used both the Scotch brand ATG and the "generic" to give a comparison?
I have used both 3M and the generic tapes. 3M has their own generic which I have used too. I do like all of the tapes and I have had no problem with any of them. However, believe it or not, my leaast favorite of all of them is the 3M 908 Gold. This tape seemed to walk off my gun's roller. The other 1/4" tapes I have tried does not do that. I think it is the liner on the 908 Gold that might be a little more slippery. I am not an AF freak, so the generics, no matter which brand work for me.
The 714 is the BEST!!! I would not trade mine for any other kind of adhesive. I use the 1/4" gold adhesive and LOVE it! You can shop around and get pretty good prices.
I found my gun for about $40 and the tape for about $3.50 a roll.

Just my experience, hope it helps!
Me too, I have no complaints at all and it was less expensive than the other brand. I worried that it would be too heavy because it looks so big but I love using it!
I too am having a problem with either the ATG7502 tape or the ATG50 gun. When I roll, the tape sticks to the paper and just pulls the the tape and the release paper out of the gun without rolling it up. I end up having to hand roll the release paper after each swipe of the ATG.
I contacted the Tape Depot and the only advice that they provided was to ask if I was holding the gun correctly.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try? I have taken the tape off the roller and restarted it multiple time and made sure that it was loaded correctly. I have adusted the tension all the way down and all the way up and everywhere in between.

Thank you for your help with this.
Kelly, is your gun new? I guess I am asking has it worked for a while and just started this or is this the first time you are using it?
Yes, my gun is new. I received in early January. It worked fine for the first quarter of a roll of tape. Then I began having the problem. I have switched to a different roll of tape to see if that would help. It didn't.
I am holding the gun at a 45 degree angle, the tape is loaded correctly, and I make sure that I press the trigger in all the way. I actually think that the problem is with the tape. The release paper does not seem to be pulling away from it easily but since I have never used one of the guns before, I don't have anything to compare against.

Did they send you the thinner tape or the thicker one because they were out of the 7502? My friend had issues with the thicker tape.
I think you have a tape issue as well. I wonder if you call them back if that would help? They have a SCS acct so you can PM them as well.
That video was fabulous! I noticed I did not have the tape roll snapped in. Somehow mine worked fine, but this video sure probably helped save some future frustration!! TFS!
I'm so confused, could someone please post the site for the tape depot gun and tape that goes with it...saw the gun from the link posted above, but can't seem to find the right tape in the 12 roll pack. tia

I just got the 3m Atg this week. LOVE,LOVE,LOVE it!! I went with Framing supplies because of their great reputation and I have to say the service was great.
I got the 714, looks big but very light and not awkward.
