I am thinking of jumping on board to the electronic die cutting arena.
I am currently looking at the Silhouette Cameo or the Gazell by Boss Cut. What electronic die cutting systems do you have, what do you like or dis-like about them.
Any information to help toward my quest is appreciated.
If you do a search for my screen name I have done extensive reviews on the Silhouette Cameo and BossKut Gazelle. I do review a few of the others too. I am blessed to get my hands on most of these cutters and play with them. I do review the good, the bad and the ugly. Try to look for my reviews from this year since the cutting market has changed drastically in the last couple of years.
I have a CraftRobo and I love this machine (which are now sold under the Silhouette brand). I have never had any real issues with it in all the time I've owned it - over 4 years. What you need to consider first when buying a cutting machine is how large a cutting bed you want and what types of materials you want to cut. If you're not considering the any of the cricut products, you will also need to determine how comfortable you are learning new software on your own (for the most part). And one other thing I would consider when looking at the different machines is if it has a good print & cut feature. I love the print & cut for cutting out my digi stamps. I use my CR quite a bit and even though it only takes 8 1/2 wide paper, it has suited my needs. I think if I scrapbooked more, I would definitely go with a machine with a wider cutting bed (although I may do that anyway ).
I own an Accucut Grand Marc a Big Shot Express and a regular die cut. I want to cut mostly thinner materials for font's and some detailed fluer de lis things. Thanks every one, still will look at more options. Thanks for the info lylacfey
I just placed my order for the Gazelle but I won't have it until we get to our new house around August 1st. Lylacfey is a great resource - do read her old threads!
I have done a ton of research and was leaning toward the Silhouette Cameo, but have recently started using a lot of heavier materials in my crafting which made me decide on the Gazelle. There are a lot of great things about the Cameo, as long as you don't intend to cut (even thin) chipboard, foam, acetate, etc. It will emboss with a third party piece of hardware and I've heard that the print and cut is awesome!
I will say that my experience with BossKut so far has been fantastic. I posted a question to their Facebook site (I don't know why, as I am registered on their forum) and still had an official answer in a few hours. I called to see if I could get the current Pre-order price/package but not have it shipped right away because we are moving, and they could not have been nicer or more accommodating. I am really looking forward to getting to play!
Let us know what you find on your research journey, and what you decide.
I've been doing research on a new machine, too, and I'm pretty sure that my mind is made up and I'll get the Gazelle.
Loretta, have you seen these tutorials on the Gazelle on youtube? They're excellent! The woman who does the tutorials is a BossKut rep. Here's the link just to get you started watching:
Ok, do you guys have url links to these reviews/tutorials? I am still leaning toward the boss Kut. Mostly because it seems the best out of box ready to go. Even though it is one of the most expensive.
I am going to do just Bosskut Tutorials. I hope that is ok. Silhouette is really popular right now so there are a billion tutorials. I don't want to overwhelm. Since I have been using die cutters for the past six years I know how some of the other companies tutorials are hard to find like Bosskut.
Scrapbooking with my Bosskut Gazelle Judy is one of the top experts on the Gazelle. What I like about Judy's blog she really shows off the details in the more intricate die cuts like the doilies. Gazelle does intricacy very well.
The training videos are the best placed to start. I think a lot of people don't do tutorials for Bosskut very much since Terri and Jules tends to cover it all. I am thinking of doing some training videos for my cutters like how I cut balsa wood, metals, make my own Jolee's embellishments, etc... I noticed I use my cutters quirky. I never can find any tutorials.
I have the Pazzles Inspiration and I love every single thing about it!
It does everything the other machines do, plus the support network is just incredible. I've learned so much from the Pazzles community - videos, weekly live webcasts covering different techniques, the Pazzles Craft Room, etc. If I have ever had a question - simple or very advanced - about the machine, a cutting technique, software tools, etc., I've been able to get an answer almost immediately thanks to the many Pazzles resources and communities out there. Pazzles is in the cutter business and really knows their stuff!
Honestly the only thing Pazzles doesn't have that some of the other machines has is the laser reader thing for print/cut. BUT... there Pazzles CAN do print and cut. There are a number of techniques floating around out there.
There are no limitations on what shapes you can cut with Pazzles. In fact, they recently released a Plug-In for Adobe Illustrator, giving you another option besides the already powerful native Fun-Time software, which is constantly being updated with the latest functions. I use the PI often for DIY home decor projects and recently created an intricate plastic stencil that I'm using to paint a design on an ottoman. The design is huge, but the machine and software have the capability to splice the stencil so I can work in sections. Endless possibilities!
I can't say enough about this machine. I don't even use some of the more popular features - pastry cutting, rhinestone designs, embossing, pen tool, etc. I'm just a cut-girl and couldn't be happier. The pastry tools are VERY tempting, though!
