I was on Sizzix.com today to check out the Tuesday Teasers (I shouldn't even be sneaking a peek at their site before Christmas but...)
And I saw them advertising "Sizzix Eclips" Coming soon. It's just a black outline. I'm *guessing* it's some kind of digital die cutter because to me that's the next logical move for Sizzix, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any info on it? Their site had nothing but a "coming soon" teaser, with no info.
I'm guessing it's gonna be like the Cricut. Gotta keep up with the Jones's! You can go broke keeping up with the latest and greatest die cutter, but the funny thing is, I really use my original Sizzx the most! No sandwiches to mess with and no warping plates! I hated the Cricut and gave it to my daughter. I was tempted to buy the Big Shot so I could use the larger dies, but when I really thought it through, I didn't think it was worth all that money to die cut a few bags! I have tons of templates that I can trace and cut myself. That's what crafting is, remember? Using your HANDS!!!! The Pro was over $300.00 and the dies were close to $60!!!!!! A little too rich for my blood!
I have no idea, but am excited to find out what it is.
I have been conflicted about the cricut for several years- since I am mostly just a card-maker even though I have made 1 wedding scrapbook for my father, working on my wedding one, and my son's yearly one (and he is almost 2 and I haven't gotten past the beginning stages of the first year book).Scrap-booking is not my passion, mine is stamping, and card-making...
Every year at X-Mas for the past 4 years I have looked at the Cricut- starting of course with the original then the expression and so on. This year I almost bought the Slice (MM) one since I thought it was plenty big enough and the cartridges are sooo much cheaper. The Cart's have been the main reason I haven't made the leap- I love to buy stamps, paper and embellishments and I am really on a strict budget (100.00/month & 2 times a year I am given 300-500 extra) for crafting. Being a stay-at-home mom is so important to me that I don't want to buy something and then not be able to afford everything else within my hobby.
I am wanting to make a leap to an advance die-cutting system (I have the CB and love it) next year... so I am looking forward to what Sizzix comes out with. I know by this time next year my craft room will be completed (we are re-doing it with Cabinets and solid stone counter top and more organizational then ever before. Everything is on special order as I type... So the time is coming to make a leap of faith and get something bigger for die-cutting... I don't see me ever buying the cricut due to the gypsy coming out (Now I can't go to E-Bay or other online ventures to buy cheaper used Carts). Even if the Sizzix one does the same thing making each Cart to only be uploaded once, at least it will be like that from the beginning and I won't be tempted by cheaper/used ones. I hope they make something reasonable in price- like in the 200.00 range and make Cart's in the 40-50 range. If not hopefully most of the bugs will be worked out on the MM Slice and I will purchase it. I know the time has come to make a leap, but I want something that is affordable to people with a budget- there are so many things out there for the people with huge pockets.
If I wanted to return to work as a Nurse - I would have deep pockets also and could spend 100's of dollars a month on supplies and new toys but being a stay-at-home-mom is so much more important. Sacrifices are so worth it to spend every moment of each day with my Son. It would also be hard since I morally don't believe in babysitters or daycare. I don't even let grandparents babysit, my son has to be within eye sight of me or Hubby at all times no exceptions. I Love being a Mommy!!
Any idea when Sizzix will reveal their new machine?
Looking forward to more information on this Die-cutting machine as they reveal it.
I Love this machine, and it will be so affordable. I can't wait till it is completely revealed. How awesome. This is something that is completely affordable and it looks like it will be great. I don't think this is the one everyone is talking about from Sizzix though. This one is made from CraftWell.

Reason: Spell check
I think it looks like a Gypsy. I am assuming something electronic.
But on Tim Holtz' blog today he announced he is releasing a die-cutting system with Sizzix called alterations....I am very excited for that!
I know, but I don't see why they'd introduce a handheld design device when they don't have a cutter. ????
The shadow also looks sort of Cricut-ish -- kinda... maybe...
Tim Holtz has some pics of his Sizzix dies on his blog. They're Bigz dies, so my guess is his machine is going to be some sort of fancy Big Shot/Big Kick, maybe something with his grunge/shabby/whatever that look is called look.

"...i've teamed up with sizzix, one of the industries most recognized leaders in die-cutting systems to create my own signature line of dies, texture/embossing folders, and yes, a new machine. welcome to my new line debut - tim holtz alterations. i hope this line will revolutionize the way we think, and use our die-cutting tools and showcase the possibilities for not only thinking outside the box, but for creating an entirely new one. join me over the next several weeks as i introduce and share with you, this innovative line of dies and textures, to explore a whole new world of possibilities. maybe you're already happy with your die-cut choices, well it's time to make a few "alterations"..."
Here's where he says it's not the eclips or eclipse or whatever.
the "alterations" line will include 18 steel rule dies (these are the ones that will cut through a variety of materials thick or thin including grunge), 3 decorative strips (these are thinner dies that will only cut paper, but allow more intricate detail and designs), 16 texture fades (these are embossing folders with a twist, more about that later), and even a new machine - no, not the new eclipse - something entirely different (but these will also work in the bigshot machines).
I hope it's icky and that I hate it. I'm saving my $$ for a new flash.
LMAO! I'm hoping I hate it, too! And I hope I hate whatever Tim's machine is, too. If it's a Tim Holtz Big Shot (all done up in his colors/style), I'm in luck because I won't be tempted by that.

Whatever it is, I hope it rolls out more smoothly than the Gypsy. Lordy, that was a fustercluck.
Me too! I was going to buy a boss kut but I was waiting for this to see what it's all about first. We'll see........I'm so excited! I am so over my Cricut already.
So it looks like it's going to be like the Gazelle or something similar, where you can buy their dies in digital images to use with their cutter. I just ordered my Gazelle, so I'm hoping they will make them compatible with that and not just with the E-Clips. Looks interesting, and like Meg said, hopefully it isn't a flop like the Gypsy was!
Someone on an email group was speculating that it's like a gypsy for the silhouette. Does sizzix own the Silhouette brand now? I thought that was Quickutz.
Yes, I thought Silhouette was a QK product, too.
I'm confused by the size of the eClips. It looks like it might be a handheld, but a handheld device is no good without a cutter.
Maybe Sizzix is partnering with someone who already has a cutter?
Maybe it really is a cutter, but the picture is from a weird angle that makes it look smaller. maybe maybe maybe! ugh!

It does look handheld, but I'm wondering if they are purposely making it look smaller. Because if you see on the top right, it has a picture of a page with arrows, which makes me think that is showing you which way to put the paper in.
I don't know. I wish I did! I can't wait to see what it actually is, even though I likely won't buy it because I just got my Gazelle - a girl can dream though, right? BSP is first though for me! Now that I bought the Gazelle, my crafty fund will be saving for the BSP.

I hate to even say this but I am tempted to save up for that giant big shot. Mainly for quilting blocks. I hate cutting out all those squares and triangles. I just don't have anywhere to put it though, and I want to save for a new flash. Maybe the big big shot will go cheap like the other ones eventually did.
I'm hoping by the time I have enough saved for it (which will be next fall at the earliest) that it will be a lot cheaper than it is now. Hoping, anyway!
Maybe they're putting out a handheld AND a big cutter at the same time.
Gale wins!
Nikki, I love the BSPro. I love being able to put the diecut anywhere on a 12x12 sheet of paper/chipboard. I bought 2 box dies and they're actually big enough to put something in. lol I probably won't go bonkers buying the 12x12 dies, but I had to have a couple, yanno. I just love being able to send through 12x12 paper. I told you about the 12" Quickutz border embossing folders, right? They look fabulous on 12x12 paper! There are 12" QK border dies, too.
Anyway, I need to see the eClips in action. Not thrilled with the cartridge thing. We'll see. I'm actually starting to feel as though I have a lot of cutters (Cricut E, KNKMaxx 24, Slice, Big Kick, Big Shot Pro, Cuttlebug, tons of punches & dies... the eClips is going to have to wow me.
I wonder if the cartridges are like the Slice design cards, which are like the eCraft by Craftwell design cards -- small SD cards. The Cricut carts take up a lot of room by comparison.

I collect die cut machines. I really don't mean too but I just get so fascinated by them. I am a big geek. I am really not interested in this one. I do hope the best for Tim Holtz and Sizzix. They are both great so I want this new item to be a success for them. I wonder if the Sizzix library is going to be on the cartridges and if Sizzix will partner with SU again to add an electronic die cutter to SU's library?
I love my Sizzix steel rule dies because I can use them with different mediums like fabric, foam, thin leather, etc... I hope Sizzix does not stop making Steel Rule dies but I doubt they will. They just released a whole line of new ones.

Yup! No matter how fancy the electronic/computer-driven cutters get, I'll always keep my dies, especially my heavy Sizzix dies that'll cut just about any craft material.
I'm interested in what style of images the eClips will cut. Will they be mostly paper piecing, like the Cricut, or will they be similar to diecuts, like the Slice and the eCraft machine?

12x24 cutting area, auto pressure and speed settings they say that you cut chipboard easily, It also has a USB plug (What's that going to be used for????)
I don't think I will get this - very $$ for me these days. I am still hoping for a Gypsy
I have to check out the Big shot pro - is that just bigger? I know they are coming out with some bigger dies that I really would like - those boxes and things
