I am pretty sure a while back I read that they were going to the one mat for cost savings since it will then work in all the 12" machines. Only problem is IMHO the new mats stink! And I am not talking about a smell. I hate my Imagine mats. I did restick one of mine with Zig and I am happier with it now, but seems ridiculous that I even need to work with a new mat to get it to work properly.
Thanks for the info! I was wondering why some of the mats on ebay were soo expensive! I know my Walmart has a couple I'm going to get tomorow. I am going to try to do the restick thing too. I hope it works for me as I don't want to waste money and time! Thanks again!
So, to restick, clean the mat very well. I spray mine with SU Stamp cleaner, let it sit and then scrape it off. Once I have done that, I wash it with soap and water and let it hang to dry. Once dry, I take the 1" Zig glue pen and run it over the entire mat. DO NOT use too much! LOL I did that this time and it was TOO sticky! Once you get a conservative amount on there, let it sit to dry and it should be good to go. I used my Expression mats a TON before I had to get rid of them. I just kept resticking them using that process until they cracked from too much use.

Thank you! I will try this. I have probably 8 mats that are not as sticky as they were.
PC revamped the mats for the different machines they have out now. It was mainly for the Imagine users.
Another reason for the new mats was the smell. That's why the new mats aren't as sticky. The older mats caused several customers and their family members to have asthma attacks or other breathing issues. I was included in that lot. I had such a bad asthma attack opening a mat I almost ended up in the hospital. I am not exaggerating. Scared the heck out of me.
I guess PC decided the less sticky the mat the less it smells. You know PC thoughts, ROFL! I agree the new mats are not sticky at all. PC did say you can contact them about the mats. I know they were replacing them.

I restick my mats with the big Zig pen as well. The big glue pen from CTMH also works just as well. I read on another posting that they don't need major scrubbing or scraping and to just give the mat a wipe down with a baby wipe before applying the glue. I took the path of least resistance and went the "lazy route" first. I figured if that didn't work, then I'd try the major cleaning and scraping. There was no need :-) A quick wiping is all they need and to ensure there aren't a lot of little paper chunks still on it.
My Cricut is just under two years old and gets a fair bit of use. I have four mats and cycle between all four of them and know which level of stickiness each mat has has and I pick my mat to correspond with the paper I'm cutting (the least sticky mat for designer paper so it will come off easily without ripping and the most sticky mat for thick cardstock or chipboard). I always have at least two mats available for use while two can be drying. It only takes a half hour or so for them to get tacky in any event.
I hope this helps!

I just grabbed some of the sizzix (?) 12" mats at Robert's before they closed down...they were like $1 a piece or something crazy like that. Not sure if they will work well but I am going to try them out

I got an e-mail from ohmycrafts (I think that's where it is) and there are 12/24 mats for another cutting machine for $7.99 and says it works for Cricut as well. I may get a couple of those
