Default What's my problem with blender pens...

I can not seem to get them to work right... perhaps I am a perfectionist? and these are not meant for perfection?

What cardstock is best to use with blender pens: USwhite/Vanilla, or confetti? The basic Black ink from my outline stamped image keeps bleading in when I color with the blender pens on the confetti CS, and a bit with USW. I'm using ink from my classic pads and trying to color in the wheelbarrow with "Love Ya Bunches" SAB set and it's not working right. I also used Clear Embossing powder and then colored in, but I don't like that either.

How do you use your blender pens?

Hmmm..... I haven't used mine like that - although, I hear of so many that do. I use mine with my pastels and my watercolor pencils. The effect shouldn't be 'perfect' in my opinion. I use the technique to color the image in to be soft and like watercolor painting .... (yeah, but it never looks THAT good! LOL!). I think you have to play with it until you get the look you want. Wish I could help more!!! I know that there are a ton of people on here that will give you good advice on it, though! Good luck!

I mainly use my blender pens with water colour pencils. It works great. I also use it with my ink pads and my chalks. I find that the chalk tends to dry out the blender pens a lot more quickly and I much prefer using them with the pencils. I like the water coloured look that I can get with them.

I find that I sometimes have to give the basic black a minute or two to dry and than it seems to be ok. It is still hard in small areas.

They shouldn't have been dry when they arrived, because the way they work is with a special fluid contained in the barrel of the pen. If it hasn't been too long since you ordered, you should definitely exchange them!

Default Blender Pens

Are you using SU Classic Black? I had a black reinker from another company and reinked one of my Classic Black Pads with it...several days later I was using the blender pen to color in an image and it bled...took me a while to figure out that is was the pad I had reinked...did it again with a pad I hadn't reinked with another companies reinker, and there was no bleeding at all...lesson learned? only used SU reinker...now I have one for black!!!

What are you using to stamp your image?

I made the mistake of using my black marker to color my stamp, and it really bled into my blender pen coloring. The ink in the black markers is not the same as the basic black ink pad, but even with basic black, I still have some bleeding- maybe my image is too small that I'm coloring. I am trying to use it with the watercolor pencils and ink pads.

Blender pens are awesome! I hope you don't give up on them. I use them mostly to color in with pastels or with my watercolor pencils. I've tried using my ink pads for color, but that seemed to take so long that I don't do it too much.

I do remember (maybe when the new style pads just came out) that there was a problem with the black ink bleeding. Maybe you just got one of those bum pads. Why don't you like it when the black is embossed?

This recent thread had a great tip that might be worth a try:

I haven't done it yet myself, but I plan to. Linda

I'm having the same problem as you are. Also does anyone know how do you clean a blender pen? I love reading all the technique solutions, very helpful, thanks!!

I use the aqua painter to do watercolor. I use the blender pens for pencils and chalks. To clean the blender pen, just scribble on clean paper. the tips tend to stain, but if you scribble, you can see when the color is gone.

I haven't had this problem with my blender pens, probably because I use them mostly with pastels and pencils. I do however, prefer the aqua painter to the blender pens. One trick I stumbled on, when my blender pens seem to "dry out," I pull the tips out and soak them is water for a few minutes. Then I blot off the excess and replace them on the holder. Try it, you might extend the life of your blender pens like I did.

I have recipe for regenerating blender pens:

1 tsp rubbing alcohol
8 tsp glycerine
5 TBL water

Pull the tips out and soak overnight. Fill hollow with 3-8 drops then put tip back in.

I just received the blender pens and pastels for Christmas but I haven't had a chance to play with them yet. I've used a Dove blender in the past and have an almost full bottle of Dove blender refill. Does anyone know if this can be used to refresh Stampin Up's blender pens?

I have noticed that when I use blender pens with any kind of cardstock other than the ultrasmooth, that I get alot of fuzziness/clumping of my chalks. I have used my blender pens with my ink pads and I get the best results when I touch the blender pen directly to the pad rather than getting ink in the lid like they suggest.

So Sorry you are experiencing difficulty with your BP. It should not be dry - but it should not be wet (drippy)...

I was given this recipe once:

Refill liquid for blender pens

Use 4 oz. bottle

Fill 1/3 bottle with glycerine (find in cake decorating section of craft store)

Tsp. rubbing alcohol

Fill rest of 4 oz bottle with water

Remove pen tip (pull and twist gently) and lay flat overnight in fluid

Put 3 drops or more in the pen hollow

Place pen tip back in hollow by pushing gently.

* I wouldn’t recommend using these in anything scrapbook related after refilling them with this solution because of the alcohol.

Hope that helps!

To use the blender pens with the pastels -- do you run the tip of the pen over the chalk, and if so, does that then get the chalk wet and then it would cake? I have used the blender pen with watercolor pencils but after reading this thread, I see there are many ways to use them. Thanks
