Anyhow, mine is torn paper. I just don't like the look of it, unless it is used on a rustic sort of layout. Anyone else have least favorite techniques?
I have two: shave cream background (can never find odorless shave cream and the smell stays on the cs forever - also, for the mess, I don't think it's all that great looking); and Joseph's Coat (the black ink makes a mess of your brayer and I don't like all that black in the background.
If any of you want to give Pearl Ex another try, just have some Swiffer clean up cloths on hand. They clean up Pearl Ex (and embossing powder, glitter, etc.) wonderfully. The cheaper store brands work well.
The easiest Pearl Ex technique is stamping with versamark and rubbin Pearl Ex over it with cotton ball.
If you have the larger jars of Pearl Ex: My demo (Hi Sara!) Keeps a cotton ball inside each jar. Then you just pull it out and rub it on.
Isn't it fun how different people are?
I love to sew, so I don't mind that (should I send you some Laurie? hee hee)
I don't like the polished stone technique. I never get it sealed right and the silver (or gold) ALWAYS starts to come off. Plus, I have a mild latex allergy, to my fingers always look like I've been playing in th eink like finger paints.

Hmmmmm, rubber cement and Joseph's Coat? I haven't heard of these techniques. I also haven't tried the shaving cream, although I think it's really pretty on the cards I've seen in the gallery. And I thought I was the only one who is so messy with Pearl Ex! Glad to hear it's not just me and my clumsy self. And I hope I haven't stepped on any toes by saying I'm not fond of the torn paper look! It's just that I think it has that rustic or primitive look so goes better on those types of designs.
I have tried the shaving cream and finally think I have it done right, the first time I did it, it wasnt pretty. As for pearl ex I only have the blue and I cant figure out what I would want to do with it. Do y'all use alot of different colors on a card when you use the PE? I love the polished stone look cant wait to do it with red and blue so it makes a patriot background.

I know how to do all these techniques, but most of them were one time tries....I avoid messy unless I'm fired up to do a "project". I think that I agree w/ all these because of mess &/or time consuming (sewing). I love torn paper because I love adding demension & interest to some cards. But here's one I've NEVER been tempted to try: something to do w/ sweetened condensed milk. EEEEUW! Keep it in my treats please!
hating my heat and stick powder right now, maybe it is operator error, but I had it and glitter everywhere, torn paper is so so for me, have some cards that have come out so so and some amazing, never tried pearl ex so i feel lucky, was buying the reinkers for shaving cream but now rethinking it, and i have done acetate and tissue, way messy but way beautiful. Sorry I rambled on to much
Ok, so I was SO excited about the scratch and sniff (Kool-Aid) embossing. (I love heat embossing, by the way....) The Kool-Aid gives this gritty texture that I'm not crazy about, stays sticky for a LONG time (about a week for me), and doesn't smell good enough to justify. I was sad because I thought this would make great kids' cards....
I agree about shaving cream...too much mess! Also the scratch and sniff...tried it with SF Choc Pudding, got powder all over the place, and it didn't smell like anything when I was done!

I didn't like Pearl Ex until my upline helped me get a real handle on it. I found out if I re-ink my versamark more often I like it better. At first it seemed messy than I got better at it.
With the polished stone I found if I use less of the metalic ink it works out better.
The shaving cream I use when my sisters children are around. They love it and I have enough extra to always make a project when I need too. Only have the mess once. They think I am the cool aunt.
Re. polished stone and the metallic rubbing off....it's not operator error, it's the ink. You either need to seal your polished stone with a sealer spray (ie. krylon workable fixatif or hair spray) or you need to use Brilliance Metallic Ink. Brilliance actually dries! Most other metallic ink will not dry even if you use them for regular stamping. (You need to spray seal or emboss with clear EP if you don't want them to rub off.) I should add this to the "SU should carry topic" but... SU should carry Brilliance Metallic Pads! Anita

I like the look of sewing on cards but that may be because I need to justify my expensive sewing machine that started collecting dust the moment I discovered SU!.
This may be a bit controversial but I just don't like poppin' pastels.
I love the shaving cream technique. I have never had a problem with it at shows or at workshops. I have only tried a few things with the pearl ex so I can't really comment on that. But, I was not too fond of scratch n sniff cards. The technique I was taught used cherry kool aid (paint with a concentrated mixture). I was unhappy with the scentless results. :(
Hmm..I have really been thinking about this, as there aren't many techniques I haven't tried (see my gallery for just a few of the cards I have uploaded recently using different techniques). I have not yet tried dry embossing, so that would probably be the one I like least..lol. Just have to invest in the tools to do it..Oh yea, that and vellum, I just can't find uses for it.
As to pearl ex, I adore pearl ex. If anyone has some they are wanting to get rid of, let me know, I would love to buy it!
My favorite with pearl ex is either pearl ex and hair spray or pearl ex and future floor wax.

I have to jump on the Shaving Cream bus. I tried it ONCE- too much mess, not enough color, constantly fighting to get the shaving cream off (the paper & my hands), and reapplication was a pain too. Although I'm willing to admit probable operator error! Can someone explain "future floor wax"??
Excuse me Your Royal Rubberness, but I think just one visit to my office would change you mind about who is the laziest stamper. I'm so lazy that I can't even stamp due to the fact that my stamping space is still in a state of chaos from when we switched rooms around in July. It's not that I haven't tried cleaning so that I could get to my desk! I use my 15 minutes to get some things put away and then for my 45 minute break I come here to SCS and then the next thing I know it's 1:15 - sometimes it's pm and sometimes it's am. In the afternoon, that means I have to jump in the shower & get dressed so I can go pick up my DD from school and, if it's am then I have to go to bed because my alarm will be going off in about 5 hours. My stamping laziness has gotten so bad that the RAKs I plan on sending out this coming week will most likely not involve any stamping whatsoever - unless I find some card fronts in my samples that I can convert to whole cards which is a testiment to my laziness itself!
