How the heck is everyone getting those awesome cards made with the set Long Time Friend. When you look in the description it usually says watercolor....doesn't really say what they used. I tried to get the look with the color pencils and blender pens....nope....so I bought the aqua pens with the watercolor paper...nope. When I stamp on the watercolor paper ....lets say I use black for the main image....and reguardless if I use the pencils...or do a palet from the reinkers.....the black from the main image bleeds into the coloring...ugh...what am I doing wrong. As far as the crayons...I don't have those yet....but used my friends the other day...not so impressed...but maybe I had no idea what I was doing...lol. I have looked at the tutorials and tried that ...but I am still just not getting the same look. If anybody could help me out I would really appreciate it.
SU says that the Basic Black ink is only recommended for watercoloring on the Whisper White or Very Vanilla cardstock. On everything else you should use Stazon.
Try watercoloring with your reinkers and aquapens. I do that all the time and love the results.
If you take a small scrap of paper and draw with the color you want to use on the design, you can put your wet brush onto the scrap and lift off the color. You won't get the pencil lines or scratches . Like anything else, the more you practice the better you get with this technique.
Nicole, Thank you for taking some of the mystery out of getting a smooth, rich look using the water color crayong. Layering! Who knew? I love the look, but often end up with blotches of color. I so appreciate your sharing, and I am off to practice, practice, practice. Wish me luck.

Definitely use Stazon black ink. It makes all the difference. Plus if I want richer colors with pencils, I take the tip of my aquapainter or blender pen directly to the pencil tip rather than coloring in with the pencils first. You don't have to work as hard to blend pencil lines on your image. This also works for applying color directly to your stamp if you want a more watercolor-type image.
Just what works for me!
When I watercolor, I use Whipser White or Very Vanilla. Everyone is talking about "watercolor paper" these days...do they mean Confetti paper? Naturals? I didn't think we carried "watercolor paper."

I only use watercolor paper when I know I'm going to be getting my paper really wet (like doing a color wash background). Most of the time I use Whisper White with Stazon ink with the watercolor crayons.

I tend to use Staz-On and then the Watercolor Crayons and aqua pen, or I will use Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol. I find if you use the crayons watercolor paper is great but the whisper white works better for the pencils and gamsol.
Make sure the Staz-On is dry so it will not bleed when you color in your image.
Good Luck, make sure to post your cards when they get done, would love to see them, its such a pretty set.

I have found good prices for watercolor paper full sheets, at Dick Blick Art Supply, their web page is www.dickblick.com, they have a great selection also
Whew! Thanks, Nicole, I'm so relieved to know that I don't have to go buy watercolour paper (I probably wouldn't buy from SU as it's a little ridiculous and I'm not a demo, so I don't have to), because I thought your samples were GORGEOUS. Now I know that with a little (lot) of practice I can do it (half) as well as you!
Thanks!!!!!!!!
