If you have a Windows PC, look in your word processor program under "Insert" on the toolbar. The tab "Wordart" might have a swirl pattern. Click on the "text" part of the toolbar & you should see several patterns. Choose one, click on it, write the text in your document & enter. Hope that helps.

I use a free program called Inkscape (get it from www . inkscape . org ~ sorry, can't post a direct link as I don't have enough posts)
  • Start a new document
  • Press the 'create text' button (the 'A', third from the bottom in the left hand toolbar), change font and font size as required
  • Type your text
  • Click the spiral button (you'll see it in the middle of the left hand toolbar) and create your spiral
  • Click and drag to select both the spiral and your text
  • Choose TEXT, PUT ON PATH (from the top toolbar) and it should do it automatically
  • Click to select just the spiral and choose OBJECT, FILL & STROKE (from the top toobar)
  • Change the stroke paint to nothing (the X button on the left)

I hope that helps  Once you've done it a couple of times it's easy

This also works for text around :

~ circles (select the circle tool instead of the spiral)
~ stars (select the stars & polygons tool instead of the spiral)
~ polygons (select the stars & polygons tool instead of the spiral)
~ squares (select the stars & polygons tool instead of the spiral)

The square tool WILL NOT work, you must do it via the stars & polygons tool as follows :

1. Type your text
2. Select the stars & polygons tool from the left hand toolbar
3. Change the settings in the toolbar that opens along the top so that you are creating a polygon with four corners
4. Draw your square (no, it does not work if you choose the square tool that is on the toolbar)
5. Choose OBJECT, FILL & STROKE from the top menu and on the stroke tab, change it to no stroke (the X button)
6. Click and drag to select both your square and the text
7. Choose TEXT, PUT ON PATH (from the top toolbar)
8. Done !!

This sounds way cool. Subscribing to download later and give it a try. Wish my WP, Publisher, Adobe and Word could do this.....maybe they do and I just don't know how too!

You can also use this one for a quick and easy twist on journaling. It does spirals, waves, mazes, rebus, etc etc

okay it won't let me post the url
so try this
www(dot)festisite(dot)com // tools / partyprint /

replace the (dot) with an actual dot and just remove the spaces between the slashes

It's under tools and party printer on the above site. If you have trouble finding it.

I just got done downloading the Inkscape program and trying it out. It is SOOOOOOO cool! I really love it! The Festisite is fun but your fonts are limited and your shapes are limited but it is a super place to do something fast. It didn't take me too long to figure out the Inkscape program. Had to read the directions and then had a duh! moment trying to figure out how to select both the path and the text. It is super easy!!

Thank you so much, PinkCow!!!

Teresa , maybe the program was updated ? Others have managed to succesfully download, maybe you could try again ? Failing that, it may be your anti virus software thinking that because it's a .EXE file that it is a virus ?

Jackie, when you click the 'download now' link it should open a window asking if you want to run or save the program - choose save. Once you have downloaded the file you need to run the install. I don't know why your computer would be asking you what program you want to open it with ?

Default re Inkscape

I have Inkscape to weld letters to cut with my Wishblade. Never thought of it using it for print. Thanks for the info. Will have to play with it some more.

I had that duh moment too. If you go through the drop down menus, one of them has a selection that says 'select all.' It took me a minute to find it. I'm not at the computer that has the program or I would just tell you which drop down. You'll find it!

Thanks for that. I was trying to select manually and somehow making a hash of it - just wouldn't work (and I thought I was good with computers :( ) The 'select all' worked perfectly.

Can I just say....

I've had loads of people PM me asking for help using Inkscape. While I certainly don't mind helping out, I really am NOT an expert at using this program. I have figured out how to use it myself through trial and error, and a screenshot tutorial someone made and posted on another forum.

Some of the questions I have been asked have been answered in this thread, and others, I simply don't know the answer to  .

I have never had any problems using Inkscape personally, though I do know that sometimes it tends to be a bit temperamental. Still, for a free program I guess one can't complain.

So....while I am very happy to help anyone , please understand that I too am just a novice user and may not be able to give you the help you require.

Happy playing

Ok, I'm really curious what you are going to do with the text you create using this program (which I do plan to download!!). Are you mainly using this for journaling on scrapbook pages? Is anyone creating anything for cards? Please share some of your wonderful creations!!

Thanks!
