Question Tying Ribbon

What is the best way to tie ribbon around a card so that the knot and ribbon lies flat? I always get the ribbon twisted and/or the knot just looks like a knot! Thanks for your help.

I've found that the best way to get a really nice finish is to cheat! To make a neat bow, hold out the finger and thumb of the hand you don't write with, and wind your ribbon around them, with the two ends facing away from you. Cross one end over the other, as if you were tying a knot, then bring the underneath end through to the front. Pull it up and over to create the middle of the bow, and tie it at the back with the other end. Take it off of your finger and thumb, tighten the knots and fiddle with your bow to get it to the size that you want. You'll find that your loops and tails will be perfect. I usually wrap a piece of ribbon around the front of my card and secure it at the back, then either stick on my bow with glue dots or, if I want a really nice finish, I do all of the above around the ribbon on my card, so that it looks like a real bow. A bit fiddly, but worth it!
I hope this helps, you may have to try it to understand what I mean!

Thanks, the document about flat knots is great, also the Tiffany bows! The secret is obviously out for the sake of crafters everywhere!

Thanks so much for the great information! I have had trouble getting mine to lay flat as well! Never thought it would be so difficult to tie a bow! TFS

Thanks for the info. I had seen scoopy's thread a while back but I didn't subscribe and I couldn't find it back later when I wanted it. I have printed the directions this time.
