Default Tying Knots?

 How do you tie knots so they lay flat and pretty? I saw the thread from a few weeks ago about tying bows and can manage that. I have a mentor who says 'right over left; left over right' but I think i'm challenged somewhere in there...

I'm talking about if you have two ends of a ribbon that are somehow attached to the card (not a knot by itself you're going to glue onto cs)

help??

Do you mean like the knots on these gift cards? If so, then yes ... right over left, tuck under and pull, then left over right, tuck under and pull. This is the only thing I remember from being a girl scout when I was around 9! It's called a Reef Knot I think. Here's a link to a visual. Hope this helps. http://www.tinarooeec.eq.edu.au/Kids/reef

That's what Mrs Mo taught me in GS, but she called it a square knot.
Yesterday a saw something for flat challenged people- just make 2 holes, run the ribbon in one out the other and the place a brad in the center. That could be your solution!

Thank you both!! yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. You gave me a great idea; I should take a look at my son's Scout book!!

Now, if I could just get the bow tying done right... I've done the one similar to Diane's idea. Two slits, pass the ribbon through from the front and then from the back. But i'd really like to try to learn how to tie the darn things too!

Thank you again. That square/reef knot is a life saver! (no pun intended)

and remember, if you turn your project upside down your bow will hang correctly.
