I have read and read and read about how to stamp on tumbled tiles and still wasn't successful. I baked them, used stazon, etc.... Nothing worked for me! I think I have a solution for my class I'm having Tuesday but wanted to see if anyone else has ever tried this.
I am using bold stamps so no coloring in is needed. I'm using Bodacious Bouquet and Earth Element Craft Inks. So here is what I did....
1. wiped tile down
2. stamped images with craft ink
3. poured on clear embossing powder
4. baked in oven at 320 degrees for 20 minutes
They came out gorgeous! I'm very happy with them. I was just curious if anyone has tried this and it worked for them or didn't work. Any advice would be nice. Thanks!
What kind of problems were you having with the tile stamping? I have made many coster tiles on tumbled Marble tiles using Stazon inks and Sharpies and they have all come out wonderfully...
I have done everything I have learned on splitcoast. I have used stazon and it wipes right off......I know everyone says you can use it but why is mine wiping off. It even wiped off after I baked it. I stamped it on a dry tile and left it sitting out for a week, then i baked it and it still wipes off. so strange....is it because I live in Texas?
I even sprayed it with a clear coat and it still wiped off.....what am I doing?
But I'm finally happy now that I found a solution. I just wish I knew this before now so I could have ordered embossing powder for all my customers. Now I can hopefully sell ep, a heat gun, and some craft inks to them.
I did not use sharpies because I always try to use as much su! stuff as I can.
That is so weird! I have two coasters that get used daily for the last 18 months with no issues. They are the standard Lowe's in a box tumbled tile stamped with Staz-on. I actually used watercolor pencils and blender pens on them and then sealed with Krylon. I wiped mine down with alcohol and left several days to dry. I don't ever bake mine because I don't want chemicals in my oven (I'm a freak).
This is the tile I did. The photo does not do it justice. Since I used embossing powder on it .....it has a shiny glaze on top.
That is just beautiful...I have used Stazon on my tumble tiles too and have never had an issue with it. Are you making sure that it is completely dry before attempting to color? I have used fabric markers and then heat set and sealed with Krylon. I am going to try YOUR technique...I LOVE the way it turned out. Good for you!!

If anyone else trys this let me know if you like it and if it works for you. I think in person it looks great. What I really like about it is that it's not completely sealed so it can still withstand moisture. The embossing powder only sticks to the ink...not the entire tile.
Thanks for your compliments. Now I want to make more in other colors and with other stamps and see what I can come up with for Christmas gifts.
I dug up this thread searching for info on using craft inks on tumbled coasters. I don't have StazOn and would love to use what I do have (craft inks). The embossing idea is fabulous, especially as the tile is then still absorbent.
So, several months later, can you give an update on how well these have held up? Does the embossing wash off?

I have tried craft inks and baking and the ink still comes off. I didn't want to seal since I wanted the coasters to be absorbent.

You stamp the image on tissue paper (similar to stamping on candles), melt embossing powder on the tile, place stamped tissue paper on it, more embossing powder, and melt again.
