Hi Jen, I seem to have had a similar experience. I stamped onto the tile with Staz On and then filled in with the markers. I let the tile dry completely and when I sprayed, the ink from the markers ran. I am wondering if you have to bake the tile if you are going to fill in with the markers? Or should we not be using the markers for this purpose? :?

Well I tried baking them also and it still ran. Now I have used sharpies and slick writters and they seem to be ok.
I also sprayed a matte finish but have not checked to see if a hot pan will melt them or not??
I also did purchase the 2x2 ones and they turned out just adorable I made those into magnets I did bake them but not sealed them because I figured nothing would really touch them

After I color in with marker, I blot the ink a bit - takes away the brightness of the marker, which isn't what I wanted when I do the tiles. I like to go for the "hint" of color. Anyway, I color, blot and then let it sit for a bit. I use a matte spray finish and hold it back a bit. I've never had anything run that way. I like how the matte finish gives a bit of texture and holds the marker color on. I spray outside and take it immediately in to dry. I live in N. FL - it would never EVER dry if I left it outside to dry.

You're holding the can of sealer too close. You have to be at least 10" back almost to the point where you don't actually think the spray is getting on the tiles. Do two passes like that. I've done everything from markers to sharpies to pastels to charcoal pencils on tiles and I know from experience if you are too close with the spray, everything will run.

I am new to this website & pretty new to SU as well. I am wanting to know what the best sealer is to use on the tiles to use them for coasters? Is there a brand that is better? Also, do you use blender pens with the pastels on tile? Does it stay? Can you stamp on the tiles with regular classic pads? I have SOOO many questions!!! Thanks for any info you can give me! I LOVE THIS SITE!!!

Welcome Amylou!! Tiles are great. I stamp with StazOn and then use pastels with the applicator that comes with the pastels and work them in to the tile. Classic ink will not work. It bleeds and runs. With the tiles "dry" materials are better, ie pastels, charcoal pencils, regular colored pencils, and Sharpies. When using water, it bleeds into the tile and the tile doesn't dry, so no blender pens are needed. I seal mine with Patricia Nimock sealer and it works great. I rarely have pooling of water when using them as coasters. I tried the Krylon workable, didn't like the appearance as well as the Patricia Nimock. It's just my preference.
