I just picked up the new Papercrafts magazine and they had one of the mailboxes featured. They used a red mail box and covered it with patterned paper and embellishments. Just thought I'd pass along.

I just saw these at my local Target and picked one up to play with. What is everyone doing with these (after they are decorated)? I can see them being a valentine's decoration, but beyond that what ideas do people have to do with them. Thanks!

If I could figure out a way to attach them to the wall with an L-bracket that wouldn't exactly destroy the wall (maybe they have Command adhesive strips L-brackets??), I was thinking of having my DD's decorate them to put outside their bedroom doors. They would get a kick out of having "mail" put into them from time to time. I know they would spend hours making and sending mail to each other. Then if the tooth fairy could also do her deliveries there - how easy would that be???
Slightly easier than fishing under a pillow trying not to wake someone, I'd guess!

Thats funny that you mentioned attaching them outside your kids rooms. My DS (7 yr old) bought a mailbox for himself yesterday. I wondered why he wanted it. When we got home, he found some construction paper & tape, taped the mailbox to the paper & taped the paper to the outside of his door & told me it was for his mail to be delivered to his room. Now I just need to find/make him some mail!

Yeah - did you see the ruffled paper on it? Gorgeous.

LOL! That sounds like something my son would do. He's always making things out of empty tape dispensers- adding balsa wood wings to them or making a kaleidascope out of a spiderman ring and an empty paper towel tube. He's pretty handy with that tape. I always know who to go when the tape is missing.

Could you fashion some kind of picture hook on the back...I know when I wasw little we used poptabs hot glued to some of our craft items...but I don't know if that would be strong enough for what you are thinking. maybe worth a try though...I have been thinking of doing something like this for my boys...great minds!
I have made quite a few and have used double sided tape or sticky tape. Modge podge ket peeling off when it dried. It works really well. I plan to use these for thinking of you gifts, birthdays, Valentines of course, and baby shower centerpieces. I am going to take some to work filled with candy and cards and sell them too This way I can buy more stamps. I saw someone selling them on Ebay too.
Dawn
I bought some of the Scotch velcro wall hangers. I wanna see if they'll support my little mailboxes!
The Command Adhesive 3M velcro thingies for hanging pictures says what weight they will support on the package. I think the largest strips cap out at 3 pounds, assuming that the item to be hung has a centre of gravity that is very close to the wall.
That's my only concern. The weight isn't a problem, but opening and closing it a lot. And my little ones will probably get excited and pull them down. LOL But it will be fun to try.

Well, now, why didn't Target just come out with a "mini mailbox stand" while they were at it?? If I had a hammer...and a decent saw and some scrap wood, I could make one.
