Default sticky paper/ stencil question

hello!
I was working on a Christmas card using sticky paper, glitter, and a stencil. It was a bit of a challenge to get the stencil off of the paper - does anyone have any suggestions I can try to make it an easier process? I tried spraying the back of the stencil with cooking spray but it really didn't help much. In the past I've only done this technique with a piece of lace but didn't have any lace that would work well for a holiday card, thus the idea to use a stencil instead.

Default Sticky stencil

Instead of using sticky paper you could use Whisper White CS. I use blue minimum adhesion painters tape to hold the stencil. Then paste emboss the design. Remove the stencil and sprinkle with glitter.

Default Sticky stencil

I just came back from a stenciling class where we did this technique. The back side of the stencil was first coated with 100% vegetable soap. You have to use a brush to be sure there are no soap bits clinging to the edges of the stencil afterwards. The sticky paper we used wasn't one I'd seen. It is Jac double sided adhesive paper. This worked beautifully.

Thank you so much for the ideas!! I am going to try both out. It will require a trip to the local stamping store (always fun!) to look for embossing paste and I will also look for the other kind of paper.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
