Several people have told me that wearing hand-stamped clothes is a good marketing technique for SU! demonstrators. Hmmm... sounds like a great idea, but how do you do it??? I've done sponge-ing with fabric paint before, but can you actually use rubber stamps? What do you use for the ink/paint? Does anyone have tips to share? Thanks a bunch!
It's funny that you posted this. I just bought a couple nice T-shirts to stamp on.
Wash your fabric first and iron if necessary.
I use Craft Inks and Lumiere on my shirts.
Ink your stamp well with the craft ink and hold the stamp to the fabric for about 10 seconds so that the ink can absorb into your fabric. Darkers tend to show up the best.
You can use the Lumiere straight or you can mix in some PearlEx powder into the Lumiere to create some nice shimmery accents. Just paint the Lumiere mixture onto the fabric.
Lastly, after all your ink/paint has dried, heat set it with an iron (no steam). Flip the shirt (or whatever) inside out. I put a piece of tissue paper or an old pillowcase on the inked side just in case it is still a little damp or it decides to rub off.
If you've never done this before, practice on an old pillow case or sheet before messing with your actual project.
I stamped on some onesies for a baby gift and used my SU Fabrico markers (which I don't see in the new catty) to color the stamps. It worked great. One tip I found: simple, non-detailed stamps work better on knits; however, you might be able to get away with a more detailed stamp on a stiffer piece of fabric. Good luck and have fun!
A tip that was in the Stampin' Success a while ago has worked awesome for me. Use your Stamp-a-ma-jig. Ink your stamp with Craft ink and stamp onto your fabric. Leave the stamp there. Position your Stamp-a-ma-jig then remove your stamp. Re-ink the stamp and stamp again. When you do this 3-4 times it makes the image really bright.

when you wash your clothes for the first time be sure that you do not use any fabric softener - or your image will not come out as well.
I just put the starfish from the "fishy" set on a t shirt for my son with the fabrico pen and colored them in with a sand colored fabric paint and he loves it.

They also sell Lumiere Paint in White and you add Pearl Ex powder to the Lumiere to create any desired colors you want. I suggest you mix it in a separate 1 oz. jar with a lid, that way you can save what you don't use for next time. Mix the Lumiere and Pearl Ex with a popscicle stick or whatever. I like to use the Cut n Dry foam (available at some stamp stores or craft stores) to create an ink pad. I apply the mixture liberally then rub it in with a popsicle stick. You have to use it quickly or it will dry up, but the cool part is that even if it dries, just put it in a baggie for later and reapply more lumiere/pearl ex mixture. Anyway, once your ink pad is ready to use, just stamp away! Bold images are the best unless you do a grid on your shirt first then stamp over the grid using Basic Black Craft Ink.
