Default stamping on cloth

Do you have to use a certain kind of ink? Does one type of material work better than others? I have not tried this yet but am interested in stamping some handkerchiefs. thanks

Default stamping on cloth

Hello
I use the SU craft pads and the staz-on pads to stamp on cloth. I've stamped t-shirts, hot pads, kitchen towels, sweatshirts, and cotton fabric I made curtains out of. Just remember to heat set your images after stamping. I use my iron or when feeling lazy I through the items in my dryer for 25 minutes on high heat. It's all held up great over the years. Hope you give it a try.

I don't do anything special when I wash the items. They just go in with everything else.

I have also used fabric paint. I apply it to the stamp with small sponge brushes. You have to work faster, cuz the paint seems to dry faster but you can apply varying thickness of paint to the stamp for different textured looks.

How exactly do you heat set your fabric with an iron after stampin? How long do you wait after stamping to heat set? Do I need to put a brown bag or something on top of the fabric before ironing? What iron heat setting do I use? Thanks for any help with this.

Default Fabric Stamping

One other thing you can do is to stamp and emboss your image on lightweight paper (think old-fashioned typing paper, remember that?!), then use your image as an iron-on. This doesn't work with words, though, as the image will be reversed. It's great for everything else, though - you don't have to worry about a messed up image on your final project, and image placement can be very exact. I used Toile Blossoms with the old denim EP on some floursack dish towels as gifts last year, and they were a big hit. HTH!
