I'm fairly new to Stampin Up, but I have to say that it just occurred to me (while rummaging through the new catalog for the 100th time...) that I am obsessed with wheels!! Mind you, I have only used one since I became familiar with Stampin Up, but I just like to accumulate them, I guess.
Maybe I feel like they're more versatile than regular stamps, maybe I think I'm getting a bargain since they're fairly cheap (cost-wise), maybe I'm a secret horder.... All I know is that my new goal is to get every wheel in the catalog that I don't already have!!
Thanks- just needed to share my personal addiction with those in the "know". ;)
Hi Kelli! I understand your passion for wheels. I made my own wrapping paper for Christmas one year, and loved it. I really like the jumbo blossoms wheel, I use it to make backrounds.
Tips for keeping it straight: keep the handle low and pull towards you, and use a ruler to keep the wheel aligned!
I too am a wheel hoarder (is that a word?). I go through spells when I use them a lot and other times they just sit. I even have a few that are duplicates because I did not pay attention to what I already had before ordering.

girlygirl,
I am just wondering where you bought the paper to make your own wrapping paper? I was at Cosco looking at the butcher paper that preschools use for their artwork and it was $20 for a big, big huge roll that would probably take me 5 years to use and be hard to store. I have heard some of my friends go down to get the ends of newspaper rolls for cheap, then cut off the inked part and have leftovers to make their own wrapping paper, but I think newprint is pretty thin! What do you use? Thanks so much!
Laurie
My demo told us to hold it up by the "head", where it joins onto the handle rather than by the handle itself. That always seems to solve any problems with straight lines and getting the entire image on the paper.

Woohoo, I've crossed another benchmark and have a new nickname!
Hi Laurie!
Well, I used some mailing wrap that comes on a roll. It's basically brown kraft paper, and it was on the thick side, but I stamped green trees on it and tied it with raffia. Super cheap and cute! I also found rolls of plain white paper at Walmart.
Something a customer of mine did was cut up grocery bags and stamp on those. She does that every year! She uses kraft ink, but I'm not patient enough to use craft ink. Maybe the chalk inks would work good!
Another suggestion is to go to a teacher supply store and buy butcher paper. They sell it by the yard or foot I believe, and it is great to stamp on! My husband brought a bunch home from work once (I have no idea why the army needs this paper), and I taped a piece to the table once and let the kids go crazy stamping on it, and voila! you have custom wrapping paper!
Places like Hobby Lobby have plain white paper on a roll that is 100' (I think) and works great for rolling for wrapping paper. I made wrap for my neice & nephews birthdays and it turned out great!

One of the gals I stamp with told me she had been told in a class that it might be easier for some of us wheel-challenged folks to pull the wheel instead of push it. I found I do much better pulling rather than pushing.

I have bought white and brown handled bags at Michaels for less then $5 for a baker's dozen (13). I've bought just tissue paper to use as wrapping paper for $1 at the dollar type stores. And American Greetings sells rolls of white wrapping paper when we don't have it available
We bought the the brown wrapping paper and rolled it to cover the picnic tables at the part for a birthday party. I love rollers. And I do things diagonally, then you don't notice that you aren't straight
I LOVE the wheels! I knew I liked them - but after looking at my MUST have list from the new catalog - I realize that they were taking over the list! It is a wheel invasion!
I am excited about the wheels from the holiday catalog - I can't wait to get the snow globe wheel and some of the jumbo wheels to create my own wrapping paper!
Hmm.. I only have 14 wheels (been a demo since March) but the sad part is I've only ever used one of them. I just make a habit to buy the wheel when I buy the matching stamp set. I don't want to be sorry later when the set is gone and I don't have all the coordinating pieces (brass templates included)
Well I have 26 wheels and just ordered the Farmyard jumbo one so now starting on the jumbo wheels... got a peek at the Winter Mini and love 3 of those wheels so will be ordering them as soon as I can. My kids use the wheels all the time... with practice they do get it straight too. My favorite and most used wheels are the snowflakes and blizzard ones though great Christmas card backgrounds!
When I was first introduced to Stampin Up I thought the wheels were a waste and too expensive. You had to buy the wheel, the handle and than separate ink cartirges for the colors you want. Well I finally broke down and bought one, than two and now I am hooked. I love them.
I adore the wheels! I love anything that makes background paper so to speak. Now, when I make a card or page, I think it looks unfinished if the background is not embellished. My favorite is the tone-on-tone look. I always use the same color ink as the paper so it's subtle.
As for paper, anyone know where I can get a roll of glossy white paper? I like the dressier look. I also use white and kraft rolls sold at craft stores.
I'm glad that SU's winter mini has a roll of paper to buy too!
Use the SU catalog (spine to wheel) to help you roll perfectly straight--also shows customers another use for the catty!
The Mike's craft store sells rolls plain white wrapping paper makrked for stamping, as it's not glossy. I think it's 50ft to a roll and w/ the coupon it's really inexpensive.
I too am obsessed with my wheels ... one might say I'm a Wheelaholic! How you y'all store yours? No matter what I try, they all end up in a big basket. Maybe that's half the fun - picking through them to find the perfect one, but any/all ideas are weclome! Thanks!

I currently store them in a drawer. HOWEVER, there is a place called Zane's Wood Work http://www.zaneswoodworks.com/ and he has an AWESOME wheel holder. I really want that one!!
I have gifts galore , many mittens , hedgie play , busy bees , XOXO's and dandilions and I want a million more , the wash day jumbo is on the way and I want a couple of the christmas jumbos . They are great for wrapping paper and gift boxes and gift bags and Stationary !!!

I LOVE the snow globe wheel!! and I like Time For Trees and Swirling Stars and Poinsettia and Woodcut Holly! umm... I guess I could have said I like all the wheels in the Holiday mini.
I LOVE the wheels! Like most of ya'll, I'll probably be buying ALL the wheels in the winter mini! (don't let my dh read this please )
I store my wheels on the metal pants hangers that have four or five bars that swing out--do you know which ones I'm referring to? You can buy them at Target, Wally-World (Wal-Mart), Bed, Bath & Beyond, Linens 'N Things to name a few. You have to trim off the rubber or foam on them to get the wheels to slide onto the bars, but they work great! I have all my wheels on it (approx. 24 and still counting . . .); I love it because I can see all my wheels at once; they don't take up too much space and when my current hanger hits full capacity; I'll go out and buy another one and start filling IT up!
Some of my faves are the petal prints wheel--use it ALL THE TIME!; blizzard; snowman fun; out of africa and the one that complements the I Like Your Style set in the new catty.
I store my wheels in these clear plastic (fold up/fold down) sock organizers I got from Costco. They sit on top of my stacked Sterilite shelves holding my stamp sets. The wheels fit perfectly- and each sock organizer holds about 10-12 wheels or 6-8 jumbo wheels.
Wheels are a great value. I love them for backgrounds or to accent a design. I don't use ink cartridges (Too cheap to spend the extra $$, and find they're not really necessary!) with them (except for embossing), but just roll them well on the ink pad.

I'd like to respectfully disagree (especially since it's my job to sell cartridges ). I tried using the pads, but when doing a large surface, you do run out of ink too quickly. While you can use them for little jobs, a cartridge is really better if you are doing a lot of cards or a large area. Definitely faster and easier.
Hi,
Forgive me if this is not quite right, today is my first day here but I too love the wheels. I was told to roll at an angle and that really helps me. I have the ladybug wheel. I made candy bags for my one of my daughter's sorority functions (they are ladybugs) and colored a few of the ladybugs red and she really loved it.
Thanks!
