Default stampamajig

I have it and love it. I taught a class on Friday night and sold several! I don't use it all all the time, just when things need to be perfect!

I have been stamping for a few years and never got it until I found this sight. I love it! I am not sure if it would help your customer. You basically stamp onto a plastic sheet using the stamp-a-ma-jig, use the plastic sheet to put the image in the place you want, then stamp. If she is having a hard time seeing images I don't believe that this would help her to use it on her own. Someone may have an answer for you in that area though,

I was so afraid to buy one because my now upline didn't have one, and I had never seen it used, so couldn't figure out how it would work! I finally saw it on a website, pictures of someone using it, and I was like, DUH.

I am one of those stampers who likes to line things up. Some people prefer to put everything on crooked so it doesn't matter if things are straight or not. Even my fun cards are more orderly! I frequently want an image in an exact spot.

When you get it, get the refills (3 in a package). I've seen them at shops for $1 for the three, also in another place for $2.99.

Try not to use your black or permanent brown on the stamp-a-ma-jig, it's hard to clean off. Someone said one side is for classic and ... I forget what. But I had trouble getting the black off either side. I think the Mr. Clean eraser finally did it. Now I just stamp on the thing in some classic color first. Then I wipe it clean with a damp rag.

I use it a lot. It helps me have a steady hand on slippery paper, or when my hands start to spazz.

My eyesight pretty much sucks so maybe that's part of it too.

Sometimes putting it on that plastic and hovering it over my page gives me a better idea where I want to put other things, like ribbon, etc.

Some people have suggested using vellum instead of the plastic. But the whole point is to have it be temporary, wipe it off and use it for something else, no clutter, and you don't have to waste good vellum. My upline once demo'd it with vellum, and if you didn't line it up the way she originally did, you didn't get the image right! Duh, that's the whole point, being able to line it up yourself, and do it, then wipe it for the next person. For example, a left-handed person would probably hold things different - it's versatile and can be used in many directions.

One other thing I use my stampamajig for is "auditioning" images to see how they would look on a card before actually stamping them. I'm all the time adding just one more thing to a card, and then realizing - after I stamped it - that it looked better without it. I stamp them on the plastic, then hold the plastic over the card where I was thinking about placing the image.

I just looked at that HUGE post and burst out laughing.

Whoda thunk you could go on for so long about a stamp-a-ma-jig.

Default Stamp-a-ma-jig

Yes, I use it all the time. I can't line things up well, they seem to always be crooked and since I bought the stamp-a-ma-jig, my stamping looks much better!
FYI - I put vasoline on the smooth side and wipe it off really good before I stamp on it. I seems to keep the ink from staining. I've even left some ink on overnight and it still comes off.
Hope this helps - good luck and keep stampin'!

Stampin Wrose, your description is right on the money! I love the stamp-a-ma-jig and recommend it to anyone willing to listen! tee hee.

To clean the classic ink off of the plastic, I use a cleaner that I picked up at Wal-mart. It has a sponge top and does a good job, imho.

Default stampamajig

Yes, the stamp-a-ma-jig is well worth getting...and USING! LOL!

To help clear up what ink "works" on the template plastic that comes with the jig....any non-permanent ink...to make sure I never use a permanent ink with it, I store a little dye ink pad with the jig and plastic. It is in a darker color, like navy or purple, and came in a small stamp kit I once purchased. The ink is nothing special, just a cheapie dye ink and it works great for marking on the plastic.

The other thing to remember with the jig is to always stamp on the CLOUDY side of the plastic (it feels slightly rough to the touch). The ink doesn't smear on that side and it also doesn't stain it (probably because of the texture).

If you have trouble remembering this, take a sharpie marker and write on the top edge of the jig - DYE INK / CLOUDY SIDE. You'll see this everytime you go to use it and you won't have to rely on your sometimes not reliable memory!

I agree with Boss, I only stamp the "rough" surface, too hard to get anything off the smooth side, I tried it way back when I first got it.

Haven't tried the Vaseline, but since I don't have a problem wiping mine now, even if I let it sit, as long as it's not permanent ink, I don't want to add another step in, especially a messy one.

Speaking as a documented klutz, me using Vaseline and keeping it on the working table would not be a good idea. I use my "jig" way too much to want to mess with that!!!!! LOL Talk about asking for trouble.

I love my stamp-a-ma-jig!

To remove the black ink from your plastic - spray Stampin' mist directly on the plastic, let it sit for a few seconds and then rub it on your Stampin' Scrub. Works great!

I love my Stamp-a-ma-jig. When I first began stamping (before SU!) last year, I went to all the stamping stores within a 6 hour drive. I learned so much from all the people working and playing at the stores. A wonderful woman showed me this gadget and I have loved it ever since. You REALLY must get it!!!!! Are you all listening?

Plain old rubbing alcohol works to get anything off the plastic imaging sheet.

okay this might sound dumb but why stamp on the plastic??

Do you have to use the plastic??? Can you just use the majig straight to the card stock???

Andrea,
You place the plastic in the corner of the tool, and stamp your image on the plastic. Then place the plastic on your CS, lining up the image where you want it, line the tool up with the corner of the plastic again, remove the plastic, and stamp your image, lining the stamp up with the tool.
It sounds much more complicated than it actually is. Once you get the hang of it, it takes no time at all, and every image is right where you want it!

I've gotten to using it with every card. I got tired of winging it with 2-step stamping. The centers of my flowers were flying all over the place. Not anymore. It did take a little practice though. It's also very helpful if you want to use a word stamp that has 2 words one on top of the other and you want to put them on one line. Works great!

I love my Stamp-a-majig! I never use a permanent ink on the plastic. It really does not matter what color you use on the plastic so I always choose one that will wipe right off.

Last night I had a class where we were doing coasters. I had a woman who stamped her image with Staz-on and did not press all over so half of the image was missing. I used the stamp-a-majig to re-stamp over the image (after lining it all up) and she was so thankful. It saved her project. All 28 women had to know how that thing worked.

I do not always get my stamps mounted perfectly straight. I use it a lot when adding words to my cards. I also have a club of retired stampers who love it because their hands aren't always still when stamping.

Oh yeah Debbi! I have saved myself a few times too with it! Wow. When you don't press down on a corner - just line it up with the "jig" and restamp. If you are careful, it works perfectly.

This is one of those tools that should have picture directions with it. I guess it does... ha ha Once you "see" it, there's nothing to it.

I have something to add about using the vellum with the stamp-a-ma-jig. I had some vellum that had been printed on and then the project became obsolete (it was a calendar that is now past). I'm using pieces of it as the plastic part of my SAMJ. Even though it has the calendar grid on it, I can see my stamped image well enough to do the placement.

I stamp the image in the upper left corner of the vellum, using the SAMJ. After I stamp my image on the vellum, I cut the right and bottom sides to make it a square piece of vellum and keep it in the plastic case with that stamp set. I did use the cardstock weight of vellum, not the thinner vellum. Next time I want to line up that image - I already have it stamped and ready to go!

I would suggest it for everyone! I don't use it that often, but it is a must have. If you have never seen it demo'd it it is hard to understand how to use it, but it is easy when you understand it. This thread has all the instructions and some great ideas, like hovering (or auditioning) an image. Never thought of that before.

Another thing I discovered while using it (ok, maybe you are smarter than I am and thought of it right off!) is to turn the piece of plastic and stamp in all four corners for different images you are using on a project. It's awesome. Gotta have it! Love it!

Gotta jump on the bandwagon and say how much I love this tool too! It's a must have. I like making the cards with punch out windows and the stamp-a-majig makes it very easy to perfectly center an image in the window.

I took a piece of the clear polyshrink and cut 3" squares. Then I took Staz-On and stamped a letter in my alphabet set in each corner of each square. I have 7 sheets all together. And I store them in the container of that alphabet so I don't have to keep stamping the same letter over and over. It holds up really well b/c the polyshrink is sturdy and the Staz-On is permanent.
