Soot? Technique Instructions

Hi! I'm a brand new member and I love this site. Thanks to everyone for their contributions. I've viewed a few samples using the soot embossing technique?? (I'm not sure this is what it actually is called), which I think uses a candle. I love the effect and was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to take the time to offer a quick description. I would love to try it.
(I tried the resources section and searching for it but with no luck.
