Question Shaving Cream

When doing the shaving cream technique do you use glossy cardstock or will regular work. It didn't say in the resources section.

I believe you use the glossy card stock for this technique. ;)

I've done something similar with marbles and a couple drops of re-inker/walnut ink in a clear stamp box. That is fun too and you don't need shaving cream.

You can use regular white/cream card stock, too. It works just fine.
Have fun!!

I've never done it on glossy....hmmm....I might have to try that. I love this technique....even if it does make a little mess...but what fun would it be if we couldn't make a mess once and awhile!?

I want to know how to get nice designs and not just colored blobs! How do people do this?

Try using less ink and don't over-swirl it. When you stir it too much, you lose the nice patterns. It takes some experimenting to get the right look.

I use one of those large foam trays that family-pak meat comes on.

I spray on my shaving cream and kind of smooth it out with the back of a plastic spoon.

I then alternate drops of 2 different colors of Adirondack inks, several inches apart. I then take a plastic fork and swirl the ink around--not too much though. You still want some white to show through.

I use glossy paper. Lay the paper glossy-side down on the shaving cream, and with my hand lightly rub the paper so that it presses down into the shaving cream. Pull it off, let it sit for about 5 moments, then wipe off the excess shaving cream in a circular motion with a couple of paper towels.

I love this technique!

It doesn't have to be unscented shaving cream. You can use any kind of shaving cream. When I make shaving cream paper, I buy shaving cream from the dollar store. And instead of using a paper towel to wipe off the shaving cream, I use a small squeegee.

No need to use alcohol inks. SU classic re-inkers work just fine.

The one thing I really like about the shaving cream technique is that it looks more masculine and I always need masculine help

I use regular cardstock - not glossy. Maybe I should try it! I love the shaving cream technique. You can use SU reinkers - I think alcohol might make more intense colors... and if I hadn't just loaned them to my sister, I'd try them, too!

I think the trick is to not overblend the colors - just swirl it a bit to move the colors around in the shaving cream. I'm always impressed by this technique - and my 7-year-old daughter loves to "make" paper with it too!!

I have used it on both glossy and matte cardstock.
As for the scent, I was bothered as well. I found several months ago Skinmates women's shaving cream (which is actually cream and not gel)which doesn't have strong aroma, it smells much much better than the men's ones.

If you use photo paper the colors are much more vibrant. It costs more than glossy paper but is made to absorb color and well worth it.

I did mine on regular cardstock. I used a chopstick to swirl the colors. Here is my card:
