To me Shabby Chic is the color, texture and and patterns that you put together. Objects are usually softer in color with a pop of a bright color
Vintage can be very intricate or very simple but old, distressed and era like.
Objects are heavy in color and all coordinated with no pop of color.
I hope this helps. It is kind-of hard to explain without a visual to see.
In scrapbooking, it used to mean soft, muted colors with pink, beige, light green, light grey, etc. It included collage, distress, and vintage, with a hint of femininity. It's changed a little over the years; but since it was never really my style, I haven't kept up with the trend.
I agree with Scrapjanny. When I did a lot of scrapbooking - Shabby Chic was more a feminine and distressed look, but still modern or "upcycled/refurbished". To me vintage is more old-fashioned, more late 1800 early 1900 era looking stuff.
