Can someone tell me the basics of sewing on cards? Do you backstitch to secure the thread? When I look at pics of cards with sewing, it does not look like there is any backstitching...I wouldn't want the thread to unravel. Or do you painstakingly tie off the ends?
I love the look and would like to try it.
Thanks!!
You could also weave your ends back under the sewn part as is done in embroidery. If you are sewing on a cover, take the threads to the back of the cover and tape them down.
ok i have never done this... but would like to try it! it looks so cute! anyway... do you use a machine or do it by hand???? any suggestions for a beginner??

It can be done both ways but of course the machine is much faster and easier. Your regular sewing machine works fine. Some people won't use the same needle on fabric because the paper dulls the needle. Paper makes dust so you may want to do a quick clean of the machine afterwards. Use the same thread as sewing. You can also do a decorative stitch if your machine has one. That about covers it!
I have put tape or glue on the underside to better secure the stitches, or sometime use an embellishment button at the end of my stictiches if i can't do the former. My machine has a lock thread option at the end of stitching but that ended with some disastrous results (very large hole and paper getting pushed into the machine) so I would not recommend it. Happy stitching!
I love stitching on cards. But there is one thing you have to be careful of, make sure you don't put adhesive where you will stitch. It will gum up your needle and makes a mess. As far as the ends, I either wrap them to the back or just cut them quite close. It seems for some reason when I've used the zigzag stitch they like to come undone a little (that's when I wrap to the back) but when I've used the straight stitch I can clip them close and they seem fine. Sometimes I sew a little on scratch paper first to make sure everything is working right.
