Here's the problem... My *NEW* daughter in-law just shipped out to Iraq. Our side of the family haven't met her yet and I want her to know we love, support and miss her. I decided I would send her a scrapbook with pictures of all of us and little notes so she can get to know us a little bit.
Second problem: When Sean (son) was in Iraq, he said the sand got EVERYWHERE. I was worried a conventional scrapbook (mini, tin, etc) would become sand damaged.
This week's newsletter technique popped an idea into my head. A scrapbook that's small and weatherproof using the ever dusty Seal-A-Meal and plastic page protectors!
Basically you make your own sealed page protectors using HEAVY DUTY page protectors and a Seal-A-Meal. Don't leave the Seal-A-Meal on for the entire seal cycle; seal for only about two seconds. (Experiment with your own Seal-A-Meal before completing your scrapbook.) I plan on joining the pages together with brads and a decorated cover.
As I was working on this last night, I thought why not just laminate the pages? There's an advantage to using the Seal-A-Meal not offered with laminating: Option to open the protector and move the pages into a conventional scrapbook at a later date.
I'm still working on mine and will post it to my gallery upon completion. Here's a few pictures of what I've got so far.
What an Awesome idea! Wish I had heard this 4 years ago when my son was over there. Not necessarily for a scrapbook (not sure his appreciation is at that level........) but just to keep pictures in. Sand did get into everything and pictures that I sent really got ruined.
Wow, such a great idea! I teach at many LSS and I love to do mini albums and journals within a page etc. The big question is always how do I cover and protect this? Now I've finally got the answer! Thank you so much. I'll just have to get the sealer away from my husband, who uses it for what it was originally intended - Ha go figure!
