I'm hosting an altered candle swap for stamping on candles & rub-ons, on candles. What I've seen is the rub-ons just "rub on" the candles...Well a friend called me today & said it wasn't working....I've looked through the gallery but no one posted with their candle on how they did it!
I have used rub-ons on candles very successfully. I suggest that you swipe your candle all the way around with an alcohol wipe first. Let that dry for a minute and then apply the rub-on. I just peel it aand adhere it a little with my fingers first and then use the flat of my craft stick to adhere it. Works fine.
I used heidi grace rub ons and had a heck of a time before I gave up. My SU rub ons rubbed on just fine. Anyone else out there doing this? I'd love to know what works well and what doesn't.
My mom's on this site, and i'm her DD but, anyways she has done rub-ons on candles before, all you have to do it get a candle and then put the rub-on on the way you want, and then you rub with something like a popsicle, and then hold it with your hands firmly and then peel off slowly and hold the rub-on just in case the rub-on isn't all the way on the candle.

I have had success and failure. I use SU rub ons and they work on most candles. I had some cheaper candles that they would not adhere to.
I will try the alcohol to clean the ones that didn't work the first time and see if that helps.
Otherwise they are very attractive candles!
I've had success with rub-ons on candles too. Not all rub-ons are created equally, though. There are some that will work and some that won't. It's really hit or miss. I hope you have good luck with them.
Hi I am new to this site (and the whole scrapbooking/craft thing), but I came across your question and I don't know if this technique would be anything your interested in but this is how Robin from My Pink Stamper shows:
i had some vellum stickers on hand (back when i was using lots of stickers !!) put them on a cheapie candle and they look like they are embedded. easy, especially if you already have some you are not using...
now i just peel them off each season and apply some for the current season...i have a supply that may just last me a lifetime ! the dollar store stickers used to jump in my basket any time i went there.
