Default Ribbon on cards

Not sure if I am posting this in the right place, but I need some FB on adding ribbon to the front of cards. Do you tie it all the way around the cardstock, or do you trim it so its not wrapped all the way around?

This puzzled me for weeks, until I figured out to put it behind your layer, then tie in the front, or if you want just a solid piece across, I cut and glue it on the backside of the layer. Hope that helps some!!

I tend to have just a little of the ends of the ribbon adhered on both sides of the back. Adhere one end to the back, wrap the ribbon across the front, and adhere the other end on the back. It uses less ribbon. Twine I will wrap all around the card two or three times and tie in the front.

Most of the time I just cut a piece of ribbon the length of the front with 1/2 inch overhang on each side, slap adhesive on it and put it on the front of my card.

I'm a no wrap fan. Some ribbon like Stampin Up isn't cheap, so why waste it on the part no one will ever see.

That's what I do too.

I'm very bow/ribbon challenged ::rolleyes:: so I tend to wrap my twine or ribbon or whatever all the way around the cardstock (sometimes around more than once with twine). I have a much easier time doing it this way, but that's just me. Yes, I use more product, but sometimes I want the look so I'm ok with using the extra material. If it's twine and has some bulk behind the cardstock once I've wrapped it around the cardstock, I'll use dimensionals/foam tape to mount the piece that has the ribbon which takes care of any bulk (i.e. the space between my cardstock with the ribbon/twine and my card base is even). Hope that makes sense.

Update: I am making cards and wanted a traditional tied bow. I tried the 'bunny ears' technique and got terrific results. I am SO HAPPY because I am SO TERRIBLE when it comes to making bows. And, for these bows, I only used enough ribbon to make the bow itself and I did not have to wrap excess ribbon around anything.

Here's the video that changed my bow-tying life LOL:

QueenofInkland, thank you for sharing the bunny ear bow video. You can bet I will be using that next time I tie a bow! It also reminded me of teaching our now adult daughters how to tie their shoes. Fun memory!
Back to Amber79's question.....I cut the ribbon just a little longer than what I'll need for the card front and adhere to the back of my cardstock. I have problems with ribbon fraying sometimes if I cut it right at the edge of the cardstock without wrapping. I then attached the bow (if you want one) using glue dots. To me, that creates a more finished look to the card front.

I'm with most others here. Adhere a bit on the backside, cross over the front, align, then adhere and cut. I always remind myself to do that before adding a mat to my creation! Any bows are adhered with the homemade glue dots - nothing moves with them! The unwrapped paper twist gets more allowance on the backside to avoid splitting. Twine gets wrapped a few times and the piece is mounted with those glue dots. I use my Cutterbee scissors for the cleanest cuts on craft ribbon. Diane
