I didn't know that scent in the SU! cleaner was rose water. That explains why I smelled a cleaner at a stamp show that smelled like SU!. Guess they were making and selling their own brand...cuz it sure did work.
My Aunt used to "always" wear a colonge that smelled like roses.
I'm gonna have to dilute my SG more, it takes my breath away...like 409 cleaner used to. Thanks for posting the ratio.

When water is distilled it is boiled into the steam state. The steam is channeled into a different container where it is condensated. Teh elements, chemicals etc are left in the original container in which the water was boiled.
If you used other than distilled water there is a chemical reaction with not only chemicals like the chlorine, but also the minerals that occur naturally in water. The chemical reaction will alter the color of inks, dyes, papers, etc.
If the water is distilled it also eleminates microorganisms which cause the other compents to "Spoil"
For cleaner I don't know that it really matters, try making a small batch of each and see what happens.

Thanks for this recipe. I love SU cleaner but they changed something in it a while ago and I'm allergic to the fragrance now. I've tried simple green but that sets off the wheezing, also. I'll try this recipe because I know I'm not allergic to Baby Magic baby wash. I am allergic to J&J baby wash.
(Don't even get me started on people who love their perfume/cologne so much they feel compelled to have me smell them coming. My DH fits this category. It's a constant struggle, here. LOL.)

Love these recipes! Thanks for reminding that I have worn out the tips on my SU blender pens and need to order new. Now I will get extra so I can make In Color markers, too!
I finally found the rosewater and the glycerin at the health food store. Not one drug store had them. I made the cleaner and gave a small spray bottle to each of my stamp club buddies. I printed the receipe on my computer and taped it to the spray bottle with clear packing tape so they will always have it.
We all love this cleaner (thank you thank you thank you). One of our group has allergies and she is so glad to have something she can use not to mention the $$ savings.
Hi I'm a new demo in Austraila and love reading all your lovely advise thanks so much for sharing. I was just wondering the blender pens you are talking about refilling are they the ones SU sells or is Dove another brand you get over there?
Also if someone can tell me how to clean the tips I would very much appreciate it. i've only had them 3 months and already they are discoloured and a bit frayed!

This was a long time ago, but did anyone ever reply to you? Dove is a different brand but it probably works the same.
I DO put glycerin in my Simple Green water solution. And I definitely recommend distilled water--I used tap water the first time, and it got cloudy and funky after awhile ooooh
I got my glycerin in the cake decorating section of JoAnns I think.

Incidentally, I found Rose Water at The Dollar Tree. Go figure, eh?
I also found the glycerin at Walmart and then Fred Meyer (for those on the West side).
The folks working in the pharmacy barely knew what it was and sent me all over the store looking for it but I didn't give up and went back to the pharmacy and found it!
Those of you who use diluted Simple Green, do you also add glycerin to your solution for conditioning? I'm trying to find a cheap, yet effective, alternative too. I've been using diluted baby wash but it just doesn't get the darker colored inks off.
I have made the cleaner that uses 1-10 Water and simple Green. I have not used glycerin. I may try it to see how it works
I'm really new to this site and just came across this recipe for stamp cleaner. I'm wondering how long people have been using this and if there is any effects to their stamps? :confused:
Also, what's the Simple Green cleaner recipe? And does it have any effects on the stamps?
I've used SU's cleaner and plain water - so far so good, but thought this sounder better.

then, Simple Green or Baby Wash for your product?
either content? or is one item better for a particular purpose? I'm looking for basic stamp clean and condition formula. Thanks.
I found glycerin at the Rite Aid store. Got baby wash and distilled water, made myself a batch - working great so far. Guess the Simple Green formula can be for the Stazon ink, right? Like in a seperate batch, I'm thinking.
Make your own Stamp Cleaner, a copy cat of SU's.

sorry i am kind of new at this but do you think you can use soap fragrance also? they have lots of fragrance at hobby lobby.
I just found this thread and went looking for the supplies. At Wal-Mart they sent me to the suppository section, Not quite what I needed. I found it there just not in a usuable form. I found the rose water at the Dollar Tree and the glycerin at CVS pharmacy. It took them awile to find it but they seemed to know that they had it. I made a batch of the cleaner and the blender pen refill and they both work great. I will be trying the Simple Green next. It seems my DH has a giant bottle in our garage.

I sent my husband to WM for the glycerin and he came back empty handed, told him they didn't have it. Later in the day I went to the same WM and asked the pharmacy for liquid glycerine - she took me right to it. Asked if I was making bubbles, I said stamp cleaner - she said that's a first. I now have everything, but haven't put it together yet.
I haven't tried the Simple Green and may not if this one works well enough.
I don't want to burst anyone's "bubble" ;o) But is this really safe for our Stamps? I know that the cleaner SU sells also conditions the rubber. So just curious, Thank you

I bought the stuff for the glycerin mix a few weeks ago but haven't tried it yet. I love the smell of SU, so thought I would try the rose water mixture instead.
If I remember right, I found it near the clothes pins and such. It's in a spray bottle about 6" tall. And yes, it does smell good! I used it to get the smoker's smell out of a cute little cabinet I bought at a yard sale (for crafting, of course!). It took several days and several shots of the spray, but eventually it did work!
I am gonna make the stamp cleaner and use my SU cleaner only for workshops and classes
