Default photos on glazed tiles

Has anyone transfered photos from tissue paper onto glazed tiles? I'm making magnets. Will this work or should I buy the tumble tiles?

Haven't done any at all, but you might go to the Techniques forum and search for the word tiles.

I have put photo's on glazed tile with the tissue paper and it seems to work just like the tumble tiles but I am having a problem with the tissue paper pictures wrinkling. Have you encountered this?

Lasertran (Lazertran?) has a very nice, if somewhat pricey, product for doing this. You run a photo off onto a sheet of it and then the image just slides right off and you apply it to the tile, glazed or not. It looks as if the image is part of the tile, not on top of it, if that makes sense.

I got mine at an art supply store, so I think you should be able to find it locally, too. For more info, here's the website for Lazertran:

Thank you so much for the great response. I have never heard of that before but I will try to find some. I live in a small town so hopefully I can find it. Do you have any tiles posted for display with this stuff used?

Vellum does not seem to let the mod podge through so it can be absorbed into the tiles. Also, the tumbled tiles work better than the slightly glossy tiles if you need something to stick to them.

Default photo tiles

I finially figured it out!!! You don't need to use anything fancy just plain gift wrapping tissue paper. Suprisingly enough anything but that will wrinkle. Different stores have their own idea about tissue paper - for example Staples called it Onion paper - that wrinkled and so did the vellum. Dollar store gift tissue paper is all you need

Yes it will work you have to use plain gift bag tissue paper though - I was using other tissue like paper and that's why it was wrinkling - the tumble tile does tend to look bettre cause the modge podge soaks into the "holes" in the poris tile. Make sure you seal the tile witha matte or glazed spay...good luck

I printed b/w pics (cropped to square in my photo editing software) onto tissue paper (taped onto copy paper to run through the printer) Then trimmed and modge podged onto rough tiles. Then when dried, I covered with a couple of layers of min wax polyurethane to seal them.

I just bought sealer from Wal-mart craft department - but using regular photo's where the paper is a bit thicker I found it hard to find a sealer thick enough to keep the edges from lifting with your finger nail no matter how many coats of sealer I put on......good luck

Krylon makes a sealant. I don't know the name, just go look at the krylon cans and you'll find the one that says it is waterproof. Instead of using them as coasters, my friends like to use theirs with the little photo stands and sit theirs up and look at them. Wal mart sells the little stands in golden color for 57 cents each.

I printed photos on tissue paper sprayed with fixative, then used embossing ink light coat on the tile...then placed tissue photo...then another coat of embossing ink then layers of clear embossing powders...melted in a toaster over.

Great ideas ladies - I will have to dig those tiles out again and what a great gift for a small amount with the stand.

Hi,

I've tried printing the pictures on tissue paper and every time it either rips the tissue or the picture does not print out correctly. Am I doing something wrong or using the wrong type of tissue? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When I print on tissue paper I iron it first to the glossy side of freezer paper. once dry it peels right off.

When I printed the tissue paper had to be pretty much taped on all sides and had to be cut smaller then the paper you are taping it to....otherwise mine jammed as well. Hope that helps

What acrylic sealer works best, a gloss, matte or satin finish?

I have done both colour & b/w I just used a craft sealer from Walmart craft dept. I found people liked both gloss and matte if you are hanging it on the wall I would suggest matte so you don't have a glare. hope this helps:cool:

You may have to give up on the tissue paper.I print onto regular photocopy paper and use that. I cut the edges with deckle scissors, or fold the edges, wet the paper and tear the edges. It works just fine and looks great, too.
