Heart An oversized card?

I have been comissioned to make a card for a friend's dad. I make tons of cards, but this on needs to be oversized. In my friend's words, "I want it bigger than normal." Help! I know that I could just literally make the card bigger, but I'm going for something spectacular! Does anyone have any idea how to make a card with larger dimensions than 4 1/4 x 51/2? And ideas or templates would be great! Thanks!

It sounds like you're used to making an A2 which is the size you mentioned. Larger and common card sizes are A6 (4.4 x 6.25) and A9 (5 x 8.5) These envelopes are easy to find. If you want to make a larger card in a different size...you can make your own envelope. the Scor-Pal website has several different envelope styles and how to make them. When you're matting...just cut your mats to 1/4 inch smaller then your base card...that'll give you 1/8 inch border all the way around. Check out the sketch challenges here on splitcoast for easy to use sketches.

I make the size Lisa mentioned for some elderly people who like to see them bigger. One 8 1/2 x 11 piece just folded in half. Found envelopes that fit in Staples too.

If you are referring to the actual card, why not try a Double Tri-fold Gate card: Using cheap thin cards Using cheap thin cards by sharron246 at Splitcoaststampers

I did this using regular white cardstock. It worked out great. If you want it even bigger, use 12" x 12" cardstock.

or a Double Tri-Fold Shutter Card: Kreative Jewels: Double Tri-Shutter Fold Card or Suzanne's Stamping Spot Double Tri-Fold Shutter Card: suzzstampingspot.blogspot.com/2012/01/our-daily-bread-designs-january-release.html

Hope this helps.

I love to create bigger cards with a shaped card base. If you have Grand Nestabilities, they make for some wonderful card bases.

I just saw the latest Sandi Genovese video where she says that Michaels carrys 19-1/2" x 25-1/2" Canson paper (like heavyweight cardstock) in the art section, not the scrapbooking section. That would definitely be a BIG card!
