I've always had a hard time trying to sell the watercolor paper and aquapainter. I didn't think they were worth the money...but now I know better. I think I knew all along it was just a matter of time before I'd find the perfect use for them. Thanks, I've already scheduled a watercoloring class for this week-end.
Well, I taught my stampers class theis technique last night, and 3 out of 7 bought the paper and the aqua painters!! I also got 3 more people to sign up for the marker club!
Location: Wishing I was not at work but I have to pay for my hobbies some how! LOL!

Subscribing so I don't loose this thread! Personally, I love using my wcc and ink pads with the blender pen. I have been thinking about Copics but they are so pricy. I already spent the $ on SU markers, so I want to use them instead. I'll be reading the tutorial later when I get home so I can play!!! Thanks!
Thanks so much for the tutorial, I tried it! I wasn't too keen at first but I didn't have any water color paper yet so I wasn't expecting miracles but once it dried I was much happier with the result. I haven't made it into a card yet but you can see the image here on my blog (for Oct 19th).
Thanks Julie! I hated the way it looked the evening I did it but the next morning it seemed to have blended and dried better. I'm willing to bet that results are going to vary greatly depending on the paper. I am thinking of getting the PaperTrey paper everybody loves but I am going to wait until her next set comes out (the one she's fixing) because I looove it, and just do one large free shipping order. Until then I'm wingin' it with what I have!

Your very best results will be with watercolor paper, Michelle. It is a fibrous and textured paper, designed to help spread and blend your coloring medium. It will produce the best results for you. I recommend 140lb paper, since I tried it with less, and did not get a good result. As far as I know, PaperTrey does not sell this paper.
Julie, thanks for your suggestions. I look forward to your tutorial!!!!!
I actually tried the watercolor paper with a couple of markers and WOW!
I would love Copics, but why not try with my markers. Thanks!
Ok. I bought an Aquapainter from M's with the medium tip and it works great for this technique. Not too much water like the WC brushes!! I have done several using this technique but I have to keep them under wraps for a little longer (sssshhhhhhh.....don't tell my secret sis...) But here is a card that I made just for myself : But I need Hanna! by SherryLC05 at Splitcoaststampers
My friend stamped some images of Hanna for me. Unfotunately it was on another brand of water color paper. It works, but not as well as the SU paper for this technique.
Thanks so much, Julie for the great tutorial!! I still want some Copics but at least I don't feel so left out since I can't afford them!
my question and sorry if this is repeated but when comparing copics to su on watercolor. does the copics have to use watercolor paper to get the same look?
No copics are alcohol based and use a blender pen. You need watercolor paper with water based pens and crayons like the SU pens and wc crayons. Copics work best with a high quality paper or card stock.
It didn't take that long at all. I just colored in the lighter shade and then the darker shade. On her dress I used Pretty in Pink and then accented it with Regal Rose. I DO think it would have been easier to blend on SU water color paper, though. I can't remember what brand it is that was used on my Hanna card.

I have stayed away from watercolor paper, because I don't seem to get a sharp image when I stamp, which drives me mad. I have 110 lb (I think),
which I got at Michael's. Will the SU watercolor paper help me with this?
Or, is it just the texture of wc paper in general which causes the stamped
image to have little "breaks" in it? I REALLY want to master this technique,
cause I can't afford Copics!

You need to get 140lb, cold press paper. It doesn't have to be SU. Some brands, like Strathmore, are pretty bumpy. I just bought some at Michaels the other day that was very smooth, like SU paper. It works great. The name of the paper escapes me right now (I'm trapped on the sofa with a sleeping 3 month old on my lap, or else I'd go look!) but I know it started with a "C".

I really like my SU paper. It is probably like the textured CS they now sell, it looks like it wouldn't stamp properly, but it is great!! And don't worry, you'll do awesome when you get going
BIG HUGS because I'm so excited. I love SU's watercolor paper personally and I'm too lazy to go elsewhere and find something else. I had no desire to own Copics even though I like the looked. One more thing to sit on the shelves. You are incredible and so sweet to share this with all of us. Thank you.
Julie - You totally rock.
I fall into the category of "I refuse to pay that kind of money"; and its not about being able to afford them, its about use.
When I water color I use may crayons, reinkers and then markers to fill in. Now I dont have to drag all of that stuff out, I can just try my markers. Wonderful of you to share .. thank you sooo much.
By the way, I tried the copics this weekend, and I really like my my markers just as much. It is actually A LOT of work to get the copics to look that wonderful, not as easy as it seems, so now the Copics are DEFINITELY not going to be ordered by me!!
