I know I'm just leaving the Dark Ages...but I've actually been avoiding Nesties for fear it will spark a shopping splurge (and I can't afford one right now!). But we've a brand-new Hobby Lobby (Thank The Powers That Be!!) and I received a 40% promo coupon in the mail last week...so hustled down and bought the Labels 9 Nesties for a project. But yesterday I received a SECOND 40% coupon for their Christmas promotion...I almost passed out! LOL
So I want some more Nesties and am torn and need some advice. Should I buy the Ovals or Scalloped Ovals??? I like them both, but can't decide. Any suggestions?

oh my....It is so hard to choose...I wish you were closer so you could come play with my collection...I love the scalloped ones and use them more than the others....Good luck as you build your collection!
blessings.
Like Sptchick, I like the scalloped ovals (and circles) the best and tend to use them the most.
And listen girl, your shopping mojo will get a work-out at Hobby Lobby for sure. They usually have a 40% coupon on their website every other week, and lots of other sales, too. You can go to the website and print out as many coupons as you like, but they say a limit of using one per day.
I have been known to print 6 and go every day in the week and buy something just because it's a good deal. We always need SOMETHING right?:p
But back to the Nesties, which I have accumulated quite a few sets of.....
It really depends on your stamping and card style, and what kinds of images you like to use. I get a lot of use from the Labels 1 set, too.
Have fun!

If you own an electronic cutting machine and either SCAL or Make the Cut software then you could have a bunch of free nesties shapes. Penny Duncan Creations has made a ton of free svg files that are quite similar to the nesties shapes, only hers are called shaplies I believe. You can cut them as large or small as your cutting machine will allow. The only drawback is that I don't think you can emboss them. Perhaps you can, I haven't looked into that aspect yet.
Personally I tend to use the scalloped ovals for a mat layer, so I would get plain ovals first and then the scalloped ones to layer with them next time you have a coupon.
Oh...I am SO screwed. I knew I shouldn't have gone on the SB website...I fell absolutely in love with the lacey circles and the lacey squares...oh dear, oh dear....
Thanks for everyone's input, though. I think I will be strong (for now) and go with the plain ovals and wait for that next coupon...*sigh*...and then get the scallops...and then the lacey ones...and then...Labels Two...and then...the deckles...and....
See? My fears are justified!
And bugga, yes I know I'll be a regular fixture at HL. The nearest one is about half an hour away (by freeway - which is CHRONICALLY under construction). So I was so pleased they have opened one here, and are opening a second one about 15 minutes away.

It's a killer having craft stores nearby. I have 3, Michael's, Joann's, and AC Moore, and every single week I get their flyers with 40 and 50% off coupons. Very hard to resist.
We just got our first Hobby Lobby and I am going broke fast! This is the first crafting store close to us - and its 30 minutes away! To me that is close, I think people in the DC area have a warped idea of close, if I can get somewhere in less then an hour I don't consider it too far away. There is also a Micheals and an ACMoore but they are a bit further and the ACMoore is terrible.
I live on Long Island in NY State and it's a heavily populated area so we have a lot of stores. I happen to have a Michael's, Joann's, and AC Moore all within a 10 minute drive. Even though there are 3 stores available, it seems the things I really want or need have to be ordered on line.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one out there that feels it would be a waste to let the coupons go unused! I, too am at Michael's almost daily (no Hobby Lobby nearby) because I "need" to use the coupon. Thought I was all alone in my craziness! Whew! Thanks y'all!
ok- didn't read ALL the responses! the standard circles, and classic ovals are *great* starting points! Then you can get the scalloped layer for your next purchase-
Although, I thought I saw chatter about lacey circles? Get them if available! THEY ROCK!
You're definitely not alone. I find it hard to pass up 40% and 50% off too. Even though the things I really want I get on line, I always manage to spend money in the craft stores.
Since we are on the subject of nesties, I thought I would share with you how I organize mine. I use an empty jewel cd case and adhesive magnet strips. I put an few strips of magnet on the inside of the jewel case and the nesties stack nicely. The pack they come in is also easy to store, however, I got a four pack which was large (When I have the same size of nesties, straight edge & scallop edge, i use one jewel case and adhere magnets to both sides. That way I open one jewel case and can access both types of nestie. The jewel cases are also very easy to store and organize!
I have only ran into 1 design where the largest nestie did not fit: Labels 8. The other 14 set's I have fit perfectly.

You absolutely have to go back to Penny's site and see how she EMBOSSES with her shaplies! Totally awesome and you may never buy another set of nesties again!
As far as embossing, you can always cut the shape and then emboss with an embossing folder or fiscars has embossing plates you can use with a stylis if you don't have a big shot, wizzard, or cuttlebug. Just a thought...

The site that was referred to is Penny Duncan and you will find her tutorials and free download link on her blog.. just google Penny Duncan Shaplies and you will find her URL.. and for the embossing, you just choose the size of the nestie/shaplie in your Sure Cuts a Lot program, cut it and then choose one size smaller and cut three of the smaller size. You glue the three small ones together and then put them on top of the larger one and sandwich in your Cuttlebug with Plates A & two B plates as well as the rubber mats and you will get the same edge embossing as the nestabilities.. the tutorial showing how this is done is on Penny's Blog site.
