Default My kool-aid isn't so kool...help please

I really want to figure out how to do the scratch and sniff cards with kool aid and embossing powder.

I mixed 3/4 tsp clear embossing powder to 1/4 tsp cherry kool aid mix and had not so great results. It embossed fine but the color was a dull brown with red flecks it it. It smelled cherry but I want it to be colorful too. Should I try a different scent? Is my mixture ratio right?

Any help would be appreciated!
thanks.

are you using sugar free koolaid, if it isn't sugar free it scorches faster than the powder can melt, AND if you are using sugar free make sure you don't over heat it as the sugar substitute can scorch as well.
keep trying!

I have never tried this but I wonder what would happen if you used a kool aid that isn't colorful and mixed it with colored EP??

Not sure if that will work but a thought ~

Did you use sugar free Kool Aid? I have never tried this technique yet (the Jell-o is sitting on my craft table!), but my directions say it must be the sugar free kind. I've heard you can use Kool-Aid or Jell-o. Could you have had the heat tool too close, or on for too long, that it may have scorched the image? Just a thought.
HTH. Good luck.

To get the color you want you can use colored ep or use the clear over pigment ink in the color of your choice

I do a lot of scratch 'n sniff! I prefer the jello to the kool aid. And they both should be sugar free. I also like to color in the area I'm doing this to. The mix itself doesn't have much color. I prefer to use embossing markers even though I know SU doesn't sell them.

I use a mix of 1/2 and 1/2. Most recipes call for less jello but I find this mix to work well. And I prefer the jelllo to the kool aid because the crystals are bigger and I think that makes them scratch 'n sniff longer.

If you mix a lot you can store it in an old, clean medicine bottle or any other air tight container. If you leave it sit out it gets clumpy.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you are still having problems and I'll try to help you figure it out.

Thanks for the tips. It wasn't burning...just turning a dull color. I used the kool-aid packets without adding sugar. Is sugar-free in the canisters different??

Maybe I'll try it with Jello.

Default Jello

I was under the impresion that the Kool-aid that you used was the one in the little packages that have no sweetners at all. You know the original packages. They sell for 5/$1.00 or something like thatl

I think your problem is the cherry flavor. I haven't tried jell-o but I have done several with unsweetened kool aid in grape and lemon. half and half and both worked well. I had already stamped the image and then went back with a versa mark marker to the areas I wanted 'sniffy'. Worked 'nifty'!

Yes, when I used kool-aid (lemon, cherry, and raspberry) I used the little packages that are 5/$1.00.

When I did this for Valentines I tried both strawberry and grape Kool Aid. The grape by far had a better smell--could barely smell the strawberry. I haven't tried Jello. As for color---I used holographic EP which gives it a pretty rainbow like glimmer. HTH Kim
