I made a mini piano hinge book using toothpicks instead of bamboo skewers. The pages are 4 pieces of 2X4" double sided pattern paper and the toothpicks are the round type. I also used embroidery floss to tie the ends.
1. Fold your papers in half so they are 2X2. I alternated them so I would have a light/dark contrast from page to page.
2. Notch them along the folded edge every 1/4" with your scissors. Make your notches about 1/4" deep.
3. Weave a toothpick through slots of the 1st page.
4. Weave a toothpick again, this time going through the 1st page then the 2nd page and alternating that way to the end.
5. When you're done the 5th toothpick should be like the first with the wood showing every other slot.
6. Wrap embroidery floss (use about 10") or string around the toothpick ends and tie off. Do this at the top and the bottom. Leave some length for beads if you want.
Trim the tips of the toothpicks so they're not sharp. Apply dots of white glue to the string and toothpicks to ensure the string doesn't slip off. Embellish and fill your book with fun things and you're done.
