I haven�t used word dies but I have cut thin metal with wafer thin dies (Spellbinder) and it�s worked fine, no harm to the die to the best of my knowledge. The only concern I�d have with a word die might be that it might be tricky to release the cut shape, being quite intricate.
I�m attaching a pic of a card from waaay back but it�s the only one I could think of where I�d used a fairly intricate die - it�s metal from a tomato paste tube which is a bit different texture than a pop can (softer/less brittle) but also a bit thicker. It�s cut with a Spellbinder fancy tag die. No problems with this.
Yes, I've used Copper flashing to cut words, and images. My favorite is a maple leaf with all the veinsso detailed. It's gorgeous on ivory cardstock with fall colors. Easy peasy, had no issues at all. Good luck!
