question
in your pic, after your trimmed off the 1" at the bottom it looked like your card was a square except for the back orange showing...
then in the last pic where it shows the back and front so you can see how to attach the latch, it doesnt look like a square anymore...I'm confused!
Anna=)
First trim, you are actually lopping 1" off the entire card, front and back so the entire card is 4 1/4" square.
Now, ROTATE it, so the fold line is on the left hand side. Open it, then trim 3/4-1" off the FRONT PANEL ONLY. The whole card is still 4 1/4" square, but the front panel itself has another 3/4-1" trimmed off it so you can see the inside back, as you noted.
Does that make sense now?

so when I rotate and trim 1" or so off the front panel only, that is off of the right hand side that I trim it right? or is it the bottom? sorry to be so retarded today!!! =)
Yes, AnnaBanana! You are actually trimming the 2nd piece off what would be, at that point, since you rotated it, the right hand side of the card--but just the front panel, so orange back peeks back at you.
When you click on the link in the very originating post, that shows the finished sample, I think that visual will help you, too?
Now, go make some latch cards and dazzle us!

These are so cute! Now that I've made one, what do you use to mail it in? Do you make your own envelope or do you just the everyday quarter-sheet size envelope?
Thank you so much Julie for these directions. I thought I was going to be able to hold out on the paisley bg. Silly me. I am going to get it for next months stamp camp.
After running from the computer to the stamp room 3 times to remember the instructions I finally took Julie's pics and put them in a one page word document so I could print it off.
I'm attaching it to this post thinking that others might be able to use it It's just Julie's exact pictures pasted into a document.
Okay, I've been so frustrated cause the forums became unavailable right when I was about to jot down the directions for these latch cards and try to create some this past weekend. So now the forums are back and I go straight to find this thread so I can get the directions and now the pictures aren't there.....and I am logged in. Where are they? Anyone have the directions saved (although I really wanted the pictures, too).
This grea Julie, but just a thought...what if instead of making a standard card size initially, why not make it an extra ince long along the bottom. I just realized that this might not even be possible, but just thought I'd throw the idea out there

Yeah! Sure you could do it that way!
I did it standard because in the end I wanted a square shaped card, so it made sense to do it that way and use the trimmed off piece anyway, instead of discarding it.
But, I've seen lots of latches done staying true to the A-2 size--whatever floats your boat!

I am logged in and still cannot see the instructions as to how to make a Latch Card. The card is very nice. Please let me know how to do this one. Thanks.
Sorry. I am not used to this site yet. I did not understand that the attachments were the instructions. I thought that the instructions were part of the script. Thanks!

I don't know which I like more the color scheme (I love orange--big Tigger fan) or the design itself. Love it, love it, love it! Thanks for sharing. I made myself up a sample right away, so I don't forget about it.
Thanks, Julie! I used your instructions and made 10 cards for a swap today (different design of course). They are going to love em'! So quick and easy yet VERY cute!

This is how I do them, modifying instructions that Caroline Stender developed. I was doing them the hard way, and then when she explained how she did hers, well, boy did I feel dumb. Her way is so much easier!
EDITED TO ADD: IF YOU ARE NOT LOGGED IN, YOU MOST LIKELY CANNOT SEE THE PHOTOS & INSTRUCTIONS WHICH ARE RIGHT HERE.
PLEASE LOG IN AND YOU SHOULD SEE THEM QUITE EASILY.
Oops! Sorry--here's the link to the FINISHED design these instructions were based on:
Also, if you do a search in the galleries for "latch", I would bet more samples will show up. I know I did upload an "Easter Latch" and it's in the Festive Four Gallery.
Thanks Julie -
Your instruction are great and your card is wonderful.
Here's hoping someone sees this that has the instructions for both Caroline's and Julie's Latch cards. I am logged in and for some reason can't see Julie's, and I don't know where Caroline's is. Thank you whoever sees this quest for helllllp! Ha! :-(
