I have no idea how to make the button but it looks awesome!
On Chat's blog, on the rhs near the top, is an Email address so it might be worth emailing Chat to see if she would be willing to share the instructions.
I think Skynacho is right - looks like the tool was used. I think the paper was some DSP from Stampin' Up!, I'm sure I just got that paper.......now where did I put that?
At first I thought it was a "button to cover" with paper on it. And since I don't have the fab brad covering tool/supplies (yet) and I have thousands of the buttons to cover, I'm going to go play! I'll see if I can make do!
Laura, I don't know if this will give you some sort of alternative, but on the Share a Tutorial thread here at SCS, Julie Warner (aka Justwritedesigns) posted a tutorial on Faux Brads. Scroll down to post #1594.
Here is a link to the Tutorial on her Blog too. I haven't tried the technique, but the end result looks really great.
Isn't there a tool made by the same people who make the Crop-a-dile that allows you to make your own customzied brads? I don't know the name of it--sorry. Hope that helps.
This is the i-Top tool. It's made by Imaginisce. They sell the tool, about the size of the Crop-A-Dile, at Mikes, $29. There are 3 punches for 3 different size brads. Good for a coupon purchase
You can get a similar look by covering your own buttons with dp. Just cut a circle about twice the size of your button. Make slits around the edge, put Tacky glue on the edges of the circle. Place button in center and push all the edges to the back of the button. The liquid glue helps to soften the paper and make it more plyable. Keep working it untill the paper is smooth and tight over the button. It works pretty well and the buttons are great for flower centers. I try to choose dome shaped buttons.
I have the I tool and the punches that go along with it. You punch the correct size of DP to fit the size of brad you are going to cover. It is a great little tool to have. I purchased mine from http://www.ohmycrafts.com/. You'll love it.
It sells there today for $21.99 less 20%. They carry all the punches and brads that go with it as well.

Archiver's sells them also. They also have times during the week where you can go and try the different tools for free.
