Default Help with decorated tins!

Hello stampers!

I'm new to this site and it's so wonderful, I don't know where to start or what to look at first!

The postings of the decorated tins on here I just love, so I've decided to make some decorated Band-aid tins for Christmas gifts and put a watch face on them (hey, I only need 15 of them, no problem, huh?) Any suggestions as to how to best prepare and glue my items to the tin? Sand it first and rough it up a bit, I'd suppose. What type of adhesive works best for that first layer of paper to tin? Hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew, as I don't know how time-consuming these little sweeties are, but I'm excited to get started. I'll post pictures of the finished products. Thanks for any and all suggestions. :-D

There is a very sticky tape that I've used called Red line tape. It's also called "Sticky Strip" in the SU catalog on page 184. You can get it several places. It comes in 1/4 inch in the catalog but other places will sell different widths. I think the 1/4 inch would work good for your project.

Thanks Debbie, I'll see about that tape. And I already DO love this site. Just wish I had about a week off to just until my eyes glazed over to take it all in!

Jamie, you do NOT need to sand or rough up your tin at all. You can stick the "sticky strip" right on the tin as it is. It's so sticky that it will hold. The only down side is that you've gotta be careful when you're placing your paper on the adhesive because once it's down, it's down. You can't easily peel it off without tearing your paper.

Here's a tin I decorated recently

And here's a picture of the matching cards I made to go in it.

Altering tins is so fun and addicting. Just be sure to let us all see your projects after you're done. Good luck and have fun...and welcome to SplitCoast! You're gonna love it here.

Hi Dannie,

Why, you look amazingly like Keifer! LOL! Your tin is so darn cute!! And what fun to think up all sorts of things to put in them, it's endless, actually. That's good to know I don't need to sand them. Course, now I need to figure out a good way to attach the watch faces so they can be taken off and the battery changed. Hmmm.....only thing I can come up with is Velcro, but wonder if it won't stick out too far from the front. Well, as Scarlet O'Hara said, "I can't think about that now, I'll think about it tomorrow!" Yes, I will post my results. This site is like a wonderland, for gosh sakes!

Thanks again! :-D
