Help with Altered Paint Cans!

 I was so excited when I saw the tutorial, I ran out and got some paint cans. I got a great deal at ACE 1.29ea with lids and handles, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to correctly cut the holes for the handle part that sticks out!. Is there a template somewehere? Maybe I have the wrong kind of circle cutter--I have an old Fiskars circle cutter. I am not very good at the spatial relations stuff, so maybe it's me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use my circle punch for this, can't remember which size. Also, I like to cut a piece of typing paper first to measure where the holes need to be, etc, "fit it" to the can and then use this as a pattern for my decorative paper. HTH

It is really tricky cutting out that circle on each side of the can. The cans used in the tutorial are smooth all the way around. That one did not have a handle. I generally use a small hole punch too. However, someone suggested cutting off an old paint can label and using that as your template. I thought that was a great idea. You did get a really good price b/c I usually pay around $4-$5 at Lowes or HomeDepot.

Here's a link to a website I go to when I need templates for stuff.
http://www.jersgirl.com/temps.html

The templates are close to the bottom of the page. Good Luck!

Yeah, the paint can in the tutorial was made for crafting and it seems pretty obvious how to alter. A tutorial explaining how to get around the holes would have been much more useful.

i'm so glad you posted this. I am hoping to make these for Mother's day for my mom and MIL. I thought I would put some handmade cards in them. I just saved the template and can't wait to make one!

I just wanted to tell everyone thanks for the download links. It helps alot to see a couple of different ways to make the paint can. I made some for my kids for Easter. But I just winged it. They turned out good, but next time, I am sure that I will do so much better. So thanks!
