Default Gold Foiling - Laser Printer Suggestion??

Hi there!

I may be a little late to the party, but I would LOVE to attempt some gold foiling on my cards.

I am just way to overwhelmed by the printer possibilities.

Who uses what? What's your suggestion?

I tend to use pretty heavy duty cardstock (110lb). So I think I definitely need a printer that has a rear feed tray/manual feed tray.

I would love some suggestions (and one that won't break the bank) ;)

The main thing to remember is it must be a Laser printer for this to work.if oyu cant afford a printer another option is to go to your local printer and see if you can get some images printed up on your card stock or card that can be used with your cards. Takes the images on a memory stick then you will need either a minc or laminator to do the foiling.with the printer you can usually check on line what card weight they will take. My card stock is too thick but if I leave the back door open on the printer it will just feed to there, mine is a brother laser printer. Hope this helps.

Yes. I would like to purchase a laser printer. But I would like to purchase one that I know other crafters are using that accept thicker cardstock.

I create cards to sell and like to use quality, thick cardstock. And when I first started out, I would take my cardstock to Staples/local printer and their machines couldn't take my cardstock. Because they had the large automatic feeders.

So I know I need one with a rear feeder tray so the cardstock can go right through.

What Brother Laser Printer do you use?

Well, I don't know if this will interest you, but its an inexpensive way to do some gold foil on a card. It's limited on design though. I have used score tape to lay out a pin stripe design. Then I took that foil transfer stuff and adhered it to the score tape adhesive. The stuff I used was "deco foil". It's cheaper than a machine but limited in style.

I have come up with another idea but I haven't tested the execution of it. Depending on how it works, I will let you know that this week. I have been digging the foiling again and I have been wanting to try another way of expanding the design from just pin stripes.

I thought I'd bump this thread up since there are a couple of us looking for printers that can handle heavier cardstock. Any suggestions?

Hello to all,

I have another question about gold foiling.
I already have a laser printer, but I don't want to invest in a laminator/Minc machine just to try gold foiling.
Can I use an iron instead???
Has anyone tried it earlier???

Canon MF212 would be my suggestion. Less than $100, don't overpay. Here's two links.

I use HP P1102w. SU's whisper white/very vanilla works however thicker card stock will not. I wish it did; it would be nice to use colored card stock with the foiling.

I was going to buy the HP P1102w but I won't now because I like thicker card stock. Thanks for that information Mary!
