Smile Etching

I tried the glass etching yesterday that was on the tutorial from last Wednesday. I made two plates and a vase....it was so easy and fun!

Now here is my question:

I etched the plates from the back side but realized I could not use words this way, i.e. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah etc along with my image.

Can you etch on the front side of the plate where the food goes so you can personalize these things. I think this is a great idea for teacher gifts at holiday time with baked good on them.
