Default Directions for Paint Cans

Hi! So many of you have asked for help I thought I'd post my directions. Please, please keep in mind that I was just "winging it" as suggested by everyone who I contacted for help with these. I made them just 2 days prior to giving them, so I didn't have a lot of time for error or improvement LOL ! So... as you read over them and use them, please let me know of inconsistencies or unclear directions... or even if something just isn't right. I've reviewed them but another set of eyes never hurts.

Okay... so here they are!

Thanks so much for the directions. They are great. What is E6000 glue and where do you find it?

TIA Jan

E6000 can be found at any craft store like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. It's in a silver tube and runs around $7 (I think). It's thicker than super glue and when it's dry it really holds, it's clear, and it's acid free. It's also waterproof and can be painted. It adheres to wood, metal, ceramics, plastic, etc. I highly suggest keeping some on hand. Oh, and unlike super glue, you can use your fingers to apply it and not glue yourself to your project... or your other hand  ! It just rubs off!

HTH!

Wow this place is amazing!!! Thank you Marcia for the directions. I'm off to Home Depot to purchase my first paint can to make a gift for my very dear friend's 40th birthday. I searched for "paint can" in the forums and came to a post of someone else loking for these directions a few days ago and Jenn pointed them to this post from Marcia! It was posted back in May and here I am needing it in October. So cool! Everything you always wanted to know about stamping but were afraid to ask...

One quick question - does anyone know if O So Sticky Tape will work in place of carpet tape and E-6000? I don't have much time for experimentation - as always I've waited till the last minute to start on this gift

Hi Jami!

I bet O So Sticky would work, although I've not used it on the can. I did use it to make my altered star book and it's holding really well.

Remember to take a pic so we can all see! ;)

Default help!!!!

First, let me say hello and I am sooo inspired by everything I have seen on this site! I love the paint cans and thought about them all night! But, I can't for the life of me download the directions. I keep getting a blank page. I tried downloading other various attachments and had no problem so I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Help! I am consumed by this and must attempt making some cans for Halloween gifts. Please email me the directions or tell me what I am doing wrong. I thank you so much.

Thank you so much for sharing your paint can instructions. I have seen so many adorable cans done up in the gallery and have yet to try one myself. I may just have to try them. I am curious to find out where they are getting the poems for the cans? Thanks again

First - Welcome Stephanie!!!!!
Second - I also had trouble opening the file. Asked my dh for help. I had to right click on it, then chose "save target as" and saved it to my desktop. From my desktop I was able to open it no problem. HTH

I have found the E6000 glue at Walmart (back in the crafts area). I don't remember exactly how much it was but I'm pretty sure it was less than $5.00. Hope this helps. I use this glue to cover the composition notebooks. HTH :0)Kamie

Ok - I did it!!!!

Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

Here's my paint can gift set. Really fun! Thanks Marcia. The MOST helpful thing in all of your directions was the fact that the lid to the Stampin' Mist was the size needed to cut out for the handle  Seriously - that was a huge help!

I get mine at Home Depot or Lowe's in the paint department. Don't forget to get the lid; sometimes they have them on a different shelf than the cans. ;)

Peg - look at the very first post to this thread by suthnheart (from back in May). At the very bottom of her post you will see a paperclip and in blue you'll see "paint can directions.pdf"

In my HD they were on the very top shelf and a clerk had to get them for me. The gallon size were $2.49 each.

Default Paint Can's

Marcia and Jami,

Your paint can ideas are absolutely beautiful. OMG! I've only been a member of this site for a few months but I had to say THANK YOU for sharing your fabulous ideas and sharing your work. OMG, I can't get over how talented everyone is. I'm so inspired each and every time I walk away from my computer. I may just have to try this paint can gift idea for Christmas this year. Thank you again for all the inspiration.

Default So Cal get together

Jami,

I would love to come down meet you all too, however I'm already going to be down there for halloween. My sister talked my son into being the "Tin Man" from the Wizard of Oz. Her kids are going to be the scarecrow, the lion and Dorothy, so PJ's been told he needs to come down and be "THE TIN MAN!" So I can't explain to my dh why I need to go down two weekends in a row. LOL When we first moved back to California (from the East coast), I was going down to my parents house (Claremont) every weekend. I think I spent about 2 to 3 weeks here at VAFB out of 4 months when we first moved here. And every time we had a 3 day weekend, we were down here. It was easy because my dh was in Korea for a year and my son wasn't in school. Now the drive seems so dull and boring. So maybe when you all get together again, I'll be able to make it. Thanks again for the invite.

jami- what did u do to solve the problem of the paper not fitting all the way around the can? I had made a quart size can (i don't have a scanner, so can't post a pic) for a wedding, so i put the poem over the "seam" but to me, especially when making a gift can like you, it would be harder to cover the "seam" as there isn't a poem or anything to go over it!! HELP! i was just wondering, because as these cans look beautiful from the front, the person receiving will of course see the whole thing, and may take away from the beauty if there is a huge gap! tia!

steph

p.s.
that is the most beautiful set i have seen in a long time, and this means a lot coming from me since i'm not much of a flower girl!

oh, and i forgot to mention that oh so sticky tape does work, IF you cover all sides....like around the top and bottom, and then down the seam. that's what i used due to lack of supplies and time! hth

Steph - I used 2 sheets of barely banana. There is no gap. They overlap just slightly and the 2 seams are right at the handle on both sides. Really isn't too noticeable.

I gave my friend her paint can last night. She loved it :o

Renee: The paint cans are clean. I wiped mine down with a damp cloth as they were a little dusty from sitting on the store shelf.

I'm planning to make one for each of my sons as well as all of DH's nephew's and niece and put their Christmas gift card inside with a few other goodies. I think they will look pretty under the tree. They give away free paint can openers at Home Depot and Lowes for each one you purchase (I had to ask). I'm thinking that I will attach the opener to the paint can handle with a ribbon.

Have a great day.
