Is there any news about the tutorial!? Cecila--you're now famous on peas, too--there's a whole thread about you! I'm not sure if I can post the link here, but I'm so glad it was posted so I could see your beautiful gallery!
Just got the Splitcoast newletter and their is a hint about next weeks tutorial from a princess using mineral spirits, stumps and prisma pencils...HUMMMM who could that be? YEAH!!!!
Sharon, you can go to same link,(.prismacolor.com/sanford/c...rPellets.jhtml) & where you see "coming soon" on left side you can click on "product demonstrations". At the bottom of that page you can click to watch videos.
Hope this helps.
gladys
I watched one of the videos. Did you know that there is a Colored Pencil Society of America?! He was also using alcohol to blend instead of gamsol. Hmmmmmm?!

Ok - I understand watercolour pencils, mineral spirits etc.. but I have NO idea what a stump is. What is that? I am in Australia - can we even get that here?
Here is a link that shows you what a paper stump looks like. I don't know if Jerry's ships to Australia or not. Surely there are art places in your country that have these. They are used by artists in all types of media. http://www.jerrysartarama.com/art-su.../0059809000000

I am so excited about the upcoming tutorial - thank you, Ann, for pointing out Cecilia's talent... I am blown away by your work, Cecilia! Thanks, too, for posting a link to the article that was referenced - I can't wait to get started!

The Princess says her stumps are from Taiwan, not China! So how are they different and where would you find those? The ones I have are the tortillions and come in different sizes, two pointed ends each, etc. And I have the Sansodor mineral spirits. What about the blending stumps on Inky Antics - how are those different? They don't look like my stumps/tortillions! Confusing!
Mrsadept,
I believe that for this technique, we are supposed to use normal coloring pencils (prismacolor brand being the best), not the watercolor ones. I hope someone corrects me on this if I am wrong.

You are right, it is for normal coloring pencils, watercolor pencils will not work for this.

Colored pencils (Prismacolor pencils are best), Gamsol (Odorless Mineral Spirits - art grade), blending stumps. I've used Mona Lisa brand Odorless Mineral Spirits from Michaels. It is supposed to be the same but I haven't tried them side by side. Buy the smallest container of it you can 'cause it lasts forever.
I have the blending stumps from China (darn) and have never tried the ones from Taiwan. I guess maybe I could do even better if I had those!
I have the Prismacolor 120 set (spendy unless you get it on sale or off ebay - about $60 there) and really wouldn't want a set smaller.
Okay everyone else, anything I missed?

Are the blending stumps the paper things (kinda shaped like pencils) that you use to blend pencil and charcoal drawings when sketching? That's what they sound like to me.
I just got a huge check from my insurance company (go me...overpaying on my insurance) so I was planning on buying the huge pack of coloured pencils this weekend...;)

Yes they are what you use for blending pencil and charcoal drawings.
Oh wow, I'm so excited! I've seen all the beautiful pencil coloring, and am honestly afraid to try it, but now w/ this tutorial coming, I might have to!

Just give it a try. You never know that it is easy until you try!! :-) My first ones weren't that great but it what I use almost all the time now. I hope I'm getting better!! I wonder when the tutorial is rolling out?

I tried my Prismas! I did a graduation bunny figure from Inky Antics. And, then applied the Gamisol with the stumps....It smooths and brightens the colors. And, if I can do it (being artistically challenged) anyone can....It was my "first" attempt and those 3 cards are going out....
I am sure there are techniques and tips I need to learn. But honestly, just try and you will automatically see some results.

Well in the mean time I had a go - albeit with substitutions and man was I impressed. My colouring - even with cheap, cheap pencils and spirits - definitely already gone to the next level.
I went looking for Gamsol - but I don't think it's sold here in Australia.
How awesome would it be if I actually got all the right tools / pencils and stuff.
Can not wait! This is the most exciting thing! I see what I can do on my own, to the color, can not even imagine, what it will look like with techniques and tips!!! This is the best thing ever....
I'm in Australia too. I haven't got the pencils or the Gamsol but I'm a member of www.stampingtop50.com.au and there was a recent discussion on there about this technique and Sansador was used instead of Gamsol. So I know that Sansador is available in Australia.

I have a question about the stumps. I wanted to sharpen one of mine. It didnt work. It was very flaky. I tried a pencil sharpener and using my exacto blade. Any one have any suggestions?
TFS
I just found blending stumps made in Taiwan and they are made by Lowe Cornell. Check stores that sell Lowe Cornell paint brushes and they might have the blending stumps. I had to get mine at a local art store, luckily I have several in driving distance from my home.
Theresa - at the top of the thread you should see a link called "Thread Tools". Click on that and there will be an option to subscribe to the thread.

I just wanted to add that the Taiwan stumps are available at M's (at least at mine) they are made by the same company that makes the ones from China. The only way I was able to spot them was the slightly different color of the two. One is lighter gray than the other.
HTH,
Sharon
