Hello!
I'm hoping to make a card which would have a bookmark attached to it(but easily removable). Does anyone have any ideas to help me out? Thanks! I'm looking forward to the responses. I am always amazed by all the beautiful cards people come up with.
You could make a pocket and slide the bookmark in it. I've also used the corner slot punches to hold them, or the pre-made photo corners (I've always stamped something under the bookmark, so that when it's removed the card is still pretty). You can also buy adhesive (Aleene's has some) that is like the stuff holding those fake credit cards onto the cc offers you get in the mail. HTH.
Attached is a link to a card I made w/ a vellum pocket on the front, which, w/ some size alterations, might be cute for holding a bookmark.
Here are directions that my demo sent me for the bookmark card:
Take a 12x12 piece of cardstock and cut it at 5 1/2. Then score it at 4
1/4. Then use the perferating tool at 11.
I am planning on making some for Mom's Day...hope this helps! You will need a perforator tool to make the removable bookmark. I got mine from Jo's. I've attached pics of a sample card. Good Luck!
One card I received before becoming a demo was really cute. The gal stamped the card normally and then added on top of that a 2" wide 11"long scored in middle folded in half book mark held together with business card magnets along the bottom. I'll see if I can find it and I'd be happy to send you pics if interested. My description here is lacking. PM me if you want the pics.

I'm trying to visualise this. So, the bookmark portion is only 1" wide?
I really want to try this, but my 12 x 12 cardstock is in short supply and I want to be sure I get it right the first time!

Hi Sharon: I have not tried to make one yet...I am planning to do so this week. After I make one (hope it turns out nice), I will let you know what the size of the bookmark ends up. The picture I attached in my previous message is a picture of the card that my demo made.
Sometimes I just make card and than a matching bookmark, laminate the bookmark and "stick" it to the top of the card with BluTack.
Or I make a card, cut 2 slits on the top (underneath each other), make the bookmark and slip it through the slits, so the slit-thing looks like a belt... Hope that makes sense...

Sharon,
I think this should be perforated at 8 1/2". That would make the bookmark 3 1/2" wide. It will then fit in the envelope like a regular card.
I have made this card. The dimensions from a 12 X 12 should be as follows:
cut at 5 1/2 inches, then score at 4 1/4 and at 8 1/2 inches. (you will have a normal quarter fold size card with a 3 1/2 inch bookmark attached.) If you don't have the SU perfortating tool, you can use a large tapestry needle and punch holes close together along a straight edge on the 8 1/2 inch line and it can easily be detached as a bookmark.
Sorry, no pictures yet of any of my cards, I'll work on that on my next vacation, good luck.
We had to make quite a few, so they are really simple. We used the word window punch to make the holder and then adhered a small square behind it to keep the bookmark from sliding out. If we had added an extra layer to the front of the card, we could have eliminated the need for the square inside the card.
If you don't have a perf tool, you can also use a sewing machine and do a bunch at a time - works well for anything that you want to detatch ("raffle tickets" and "prize slips")
Here's one that I recently cased from BethanyPaul, she used the word widow punch on the card, and inserted a folded bookmark that had magnets on the bottom to keep it closed. Pretty easy to do and I really liked hers! The Bookmark and Card by BethanyPaull at Splitcoaststampers
One suggestion is to keep your bookmark joined at the top - have two "layers". I cut out a bookmark and left it joined at the top. Punched a little whole in the top for ribbon, and then put a piece of magnet on the inside of each "layer" (2 pieces all together) That way the bookmark can be put on the outside of a card, and the magnet holds it in place. When you remove the bookmark to use, the magnet keeps it in place between your pages - make sense?? LF

Have you considered cutting the paper wide enough to run a strip of the paper through one of the little sewing machines or a regular sewing machine, or even with one of the Stampin up punches so that a person could perforate the bookmark. It could be easily torn off by the user. I've seen "store bought" cards that use this type of format. Might work? ;)
I also used my perforating tool to make an attached bookmark. I used the standard 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 folded card and just perforated a strip along the side of the front flap.
Manly bookmark birthday card
I make the usual a5 size card and perforate the line where I want my bookmark to come off and then add some ribbon at the top when I have finished decorating the card and bookmark. I stamp my white card before I cut it to attach to each side.
I will attach a couple to show you
take care

A book mark...What a wonderful Mother's Day idea for a Mom who appreciates books, lives in a small room at a personal care facility, and couldn't manage the explosion box I originally planned for her. I plan to make several bookmarks using the ideas on this page as inspiration. Now if my work day would just hurry along I could go home and play creatively. Thank you. :-)
You could also make a long velum envelope pocket and put the book mark inside on the front cover. Also there is no rule about how long the card should be or how short the book mark should be. Have fun with it. I want to see pictures whe you are done. There are so many good ideas here to use.
Thanks mclem for posting the question in the first place...now that Mother's Day is coming up, I now have more ideas for a bookmark card. I can't decide on which one to make now! I will post my pics tomorrow or this weekend since I will be making mine tonight.
Thanks to all the wonderful ladies who contributed ideas and have attached pics (which is very helpful)! Have a good one!
