Default Bagalope bag-a-lope *merged*

Hurray, I made my very first bagalope, bagelope or envelope bag (whatever you want to call it. Basically it's a bag made out of an envelope. Our demo taught us how to make them at our latest workshop and they are so easy and fun to make. Thanks Valli!!!!!

Here is a link to my very first bagelope:
Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

Here are some instructions that I found online:
http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_paper_cr...385779,00.html

Happy Stamping!!!!
Take care, Brenda

That is very cute and thanks for posting the link to the instructions!!! Have you tried those pocket cards they are doing this week? I've made two, those were a lot of fun!

Debbie, No I have not heard of pocket cards yet. Are their instructions on this board or elsewhere. It sounds like something that would be fun to try. I'll have to check it out.

Take care, Brenda

Elisha - I'll give it a shot. Seal closed an envelope. Trim about 1/2" off of one of the short ends. Score the three still-closed sides at about 3/4" from each edge. ( this measurement is flexible as long as you do the same measurement on all three sides). Now fold the scored edges. stick your hand in and push the middle bottom (short side) up until it's flat and work your way out to flatten the rest of the bottom out to the little "ears" that form. Sharpen the side folds pushing the middle crease inward (like a milk carton). Now glue the little ears flat to the bottom of the bag ( I use mini glue dots to hold good). Add a topper and ribbon and maybe a tag and your good to go. I stamp on mine after scoring but before folding.

Please ask more questions if this is unclear.
Enjoy.....

Brandilyn, I'll try. Seal your envelope shut. Trim a very little off one of the short sides. Score the remaining 3 sides at 3/4" (this can be varied but all 3 must be the same measurement).
Fold on each score mark - back and forth.
now put your hand in the open end and reverse/pinch the side folds inward (like a milk carton) and flatten the bottom fold and 2 little "ears" will pop outward from the bottom. I use mini glue dots to fold them in and adhere them to the flattened bottom. Now you can fold the top and punch holes for ribbon to tie shut or and other way you want to close the top.
If you have questions - be sure to ask. My brain is a little holiday fried...lol.
Enjoy......

A bagalope is a bag made from an envelope. Here is a link to a website with a pic and directions: http://www.stampingpro.com/technique...s/envy_bag.pdf

And attached is a .pdf file I donwloaded from SCS (credit to Amy Allan).

These are so easy to make and are very cute! **NOTE: the medium SU! envelope is the standard A2 size**

Happy stamping!

PS Where in SE Michigan are you? I grew up near Adrian (went to Sand Creek Schools), and now live in Ortonville (not far from Pine Knob)

Thanks, Jeane. I live in Commerce Township...probably 40-45 minutes from where you are. My kids went to a summer camp in Ortonville many years ago.

I found the easiest way to close these bag a lopes was suggested by another SCS, use an address label. I took some Avery 5162 labels that are 1-1/3 x 4, cut them in half vertically and they fit perfectly on the bottom of the bagalopes I made with regular size mailing envelopes!
Thanks for whoever posted this, I have looked for this thread again and never found the person who said it.

Default How do u make the bagalope?

I hostessed a party once, and we made a little gift bag out of a 6 x 9 white envelope. I need to make 400 (with some help from some friends) gift bags for a women's missions trip to Slovakia, and I thought this would be an inexpensive bag, but I forgot how to make them. Is there a tutorial somewhere? thanks.

okay - seal the flap.
trim off one of the short ends.
score 3/4'' in on each of the 3 remaining closed sides. ( this measurement can be adjust - just keep it the same for all 3 sides)
stick your hand in and invert the scores on the 2 long sides inward.
with your hand in - open the bottom ( short side ) up and flatten so that 2 little triangular "ears" stick out to the side.
Fold these ears underneath and adhere with glue dots.

man !!! it's really not as hard as these stupid directions......lol

It's an envelope that is made into a bag! Hence Bag-A-Lope!

I don't know how to explain it well but I'll give it a try.

Any envelope will do...
Take an envelope and seal it.
(Let's say for this example a 3 5/8 x 6 1/2)
Cut off (open) one end of the 3 5/8.
Score the remaining "unopened" sides about 1/2 inch or so.
(Once you've made one with success experiment with the measurements.)
Open up the envelope at the open end.
Fold the bottom corners into triangles to make a bag. As a grocery store bag might be and tape down the "triangles".
You may need to fold some of the folds in towards the bag.
Viola! A Bag-A-Lope!

I googled for "bouncing brayer technique" last night, and I found a website with directions (including photos) for gift bags from a manila envelope. The website is www.pagesoftheheart.net; then look around for their techniques place. Never did find the directions I wanted, but I thought this was cool so I printed it. Didn't know it was also called a "bag-a-lope"! How cute!!

It's kind of the same concept as how a tote bag is made, if you've ever seen it done. You start with a flat piece and create a squared bottom by folding the corners under the base. Kind of hard to picture, but if you have tote bag handy, look at how they did the bottom with the corners folded under.

That's right, then click on the play button in the little video screen. There will be a short commercial, then the segment on bag-a-lopes from a local (Utah) morning show...

Yes, it will take you to a website for a UT local news channel. However, there is a video player in the upper left hand corner and if you wait a few minutes (depending on the speed of your computer), a short video segment will play. The segment is a SU demo showing some fall/halloween sets stamped on different design ideas for a bag-a-lope.
