Altered clipboard ?

I want to do a bunch of clipboards for teachers at my school. I see the tutorial but still can't figure out how to do the top of the board so neatly. I don't want to paint aroung the "clip" but add paper. So many in the gallary are done so well and I just can't figure it out. Any hints?

It took me about an hour to get the top just right. I made a template to fit around the clip then I can just cut that off the top of the paper I am using. I went through alot of scrap paper to get it right, and now I have to make another one because all tops are not the same. I did find a dollar type store that had some , so I bought 20 to make sure I could use the template for awhile, and had a cheap stash.
