I've only tried Hershey bars and for me they did not do well. I've tried the big size bars as well as the mini. The mini ones I did as reindeers and realized people would by them only if they were real cheap like 50 cents. My cost to make them was around 36 cents. So I no longer do candy items. I've never tried skittles/M&Ms.
I just picked up some 50 cent items at Michaels....the little notepads with the pen on the spine and some small open boxes with white loose paper inside. Plan on altering these things with my own DSP and stamps, embellishments, etc. I always do something with post-its, paper pads, note pads, etc and usually sell these items pretty well...but I generally have them super cheap, like $3. I think they make nice little gifts for people to give others at the holidays or any time.
I want to try some sets of altered clothespins too that I have seen. And some of the painted and altered mouse traps that people hang and use for note holders. Still need to come up with my own design. The ones I saw on Pinterest were way cute tho!

I make altered clothes pins using the regular size clothes pins and gluing a piece of card stock and then an embellishment on it.....I sell them (12 pins) with 6 feet of velvet ribbon for $5 at my craft fairs. They are so handy to tape to a cabinet and hang the Christmas pics on them! I even made some graduation ones for when my son graduated to display all the invites we received

Lots of great ideas! I have not done much for a couple years but I actually got my work to think about a mini craft showcase for the staff. We don't have a huge office but everyone loves crafts so even a small scale would be fun. I am going to use a few ideas off of this thread! Thanks everyone!
I was wondering - if you make post it holders for craft fairs - do you use regular post its from office supply store or do you buy them somewhere in bulk (so it's more cost effective)?
I also saw a mini sewing kit holder somewhere here and have no idea where to get those mini kits - scoured the eBay and didn't find anything similar.. any ideas?

I watch for a sale at Staples. They have 12 packs that you can get for a pretty reasonable price if you catch them on sale. You have to get there early in the week though or they will be gone!

You can sometimes find the sewing kits in the $ bins at Michael's and JoAnn's. I have not seen them at Target, but they may have them at times.
I got my mini sewing kits at Michaels. This year was slim pickins but I got some bright orange and a couple of black ones...halloween sewing kits?! LOL I think I got 6 or 7 total, that was all they had. I just cover them with some DSP (going to use the SU sewing DSP this time since it has both orange and black in it!) and tie them up with some twine and put a tag that says "Sew Glad We're Friends!" or "You're Sew Sweet!" or "Thank You Sew Much!" They turn out cute.
My other idea if I can figure it out was to use the SU fabric that has the sewing theme. Picked some up off their clearance rack a while back and was going to try to make a pincushion for the top of the sewing kit instead of covering it in paper. Thought that would be way cool!

I usually buy the off-brand post-it notes. I like the Staples no-name brand. Their colour is less bright yellow, which I like better and they stick very well.
I was asked to make some cards and things for a benefit in October for a 3 year old little boy with a rare form of Cancer. Well, I have all of my cards done and was looking for something else to do when I ran across some Martha Stewart Test Tube favor things. Now most people (including me) would naturally think to fill the test tubes with candy. But, I got to thinking about what this benefit was about. It's about a family who has a child with Cancer and is often exhausted with all of the medical appointments and trips to the hospital's. Plus, there are so many things out there that have candy in them. I wanted something different. I wanted something that would appeal to those people that don't want the candy.
So, being someone who has Fibromyalgia and knows the importance of taking time for yourself & resting is (not to mention the colder weather coming up).... My idea is filling the test tubes with bath beads, bath salts, bath foam, etc. (An entire box of Calgone goes a long way with these small tubes!) I then went and found those little pill type capsles that when they get put into water disolve and make cute sponge animals (DON'T do this with liquid Bath Foam, ONLY DRY stuff!), and hid a "capsle" down in the bath beads of each test tube. The tags could read something like, "Just because it's part of a test, doesn't mean it can't be a treat too!" or "Take time to relax & enjoy the simple things in life" or something like that. This way they can be bought as little "Thank You" gifts for the caring nurses, friends, family member's, etc.
But, who's to say that one can't make these for Crafty Fair's too? These would make great gifts for teacher's, Mom's, friends, etc. The possibilities for these are endless! And, since Halloween is coming up soon, I know they will be on sale at the local craft stores.
If you are into up-cycling, contact your local schools, colleges, etc. and see if they have any old test tubes that they want to get rid of. Then you can make your own "stoppers" for them out of old wine corks cut to size to fit. (DO NOT PUT CANDY OR FOOD ITEMS IN USED ONES THOUGH!)
Anyway, those are my idea's for something new & fun to do this year. I just don't know what to sell them for. Any price range idea's ladies?
Christi, I wish I lived near you so I could support this endeavor. I think it is so great that you are thinking outside the box. As someone who has given up white sugar I applaud you! I hope you have great success. I think there is too much candy in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So lets say you have $1 total cost in each tube for all supplies. Double it to $2 then double that to $4. So $4 is what you should sell it for. If your total were $3.55, you can either price it at $3.50 or $4, whichever you think would sell best. I would tend to go with $4 then offer a xforX price....such as $4 each or 3 for $10.

I was going to look for a pattern to use and now you sent me one! i wonder if the candy sticks are out now though. I have never noticed them before but will have to keep my eyes open for them. I think she says she got them from WalMart and I think Walgreens may have a version of them as well.

I made something similar to this last year but hadn't seen any inspiration - came up with my own design. They are pictured on my Facebook page.
The candy sticks are available for purchase online. I can't remember where I bought them but I did a search for Bogdon candy reception stick and found a place to buy them. These sold really well at $3ea or 2/$5

I checked the Oriental Trading site last week and they are listed as available, but my local stores don't usually put them out until after Halloween. I usually buy them in tubs of 60-ish pieces at Hobby Lobby, I think last year they were 6.99 or 7.99 without a coupon.
Just added more craft show items in my gallery. Finding good ideas this year. I've added a number of new items to my list. My first show is Nov 2. Time sure does sneak up on you. I find myself getting overwhelmed this time of year. But it sure is fun. How is everyone else doing with their craft show items. Any new ideas?

I made these for my fairs last year already, and had a HARD time finding the candy sticks, and I live in a big city. I ended up having to order then from Oriental Trading, since no one here carries them until right before Christmas. Good luck!

OK gals.....I have made up several sets of "Altered clothespins"....clothespins with paper/embellishments on them....12 of them in a ziploc bag along with 6 feet of velvet ribbon.....I'm looking for something "catchy" for the tag.....Any ideas? Also I sell them for $5....but thinking about $7 ?? thanks for your help!

As soon as I read this post I thought "What's You're Hangup?". I simply thought of what clothespins were used for. I did not think of how they would be embellished. Anyway this saying could apply year round not just for the holidays. That's my whimsical side showing again.
