Welcome to 2024 and another year of learning new techniques and revisiting old ones we may have forgotten. I think the team did a fabulous job last year - and I'm hoping that this year I'll have a little more time to particiapte.
I was hoping to bring you a fun fold to start the year off, but because my Christmas plans were uncertain and fluid, I wanted something quick and easy that I could prep and have ready to go, so I turned to a link Debbie sent me recently. If you remember, it was she who introduced me to the Embossing Folders with Watercolour technique which feature as TLC949. This has a similar look, but uses the DEBOSSED side (so think twice before you emboss your coloured panel), and then swiping with black ink for a quick filling in of the background. I think for this you will need to be sure to use a fairly firm black ink pad, rather than a felt one. I actually used my Ranger's Archival, and got good results with that. However in the second video shown below, Erum uses a regular TH foam applicator and doesn't seem to have any difficulties, and I did end up using one for touching up a couple of areas.
(Apologies that the videos don't seem to be embedding properly. The links work - and at least I can see them which is more than I've been able to do with embedded videos for more than two years - but that does mean I'm not sure how this displays to you and I don't have time to mess around with multiple browsers to try to get it working).
Basic instructions: Cut a piece of card to the desired size. Sponge with your inks of choice. DEBOSS with your chosen embossing folder (preferably 3D, but judging by my experiments with the previous technique using Sharpies, a regular ef will also work) so that the coloured part of the card is the highest part of of the surface. Swipe carefully with black or a deep colour of ink so that what remains in colour is the debossed image. Some of the "highlights" will pick up the black - that's good, it adds detail to the image.
Finish as desired.

ETA - sorry for goofing on the challenge number. Been s stressful couple of weeks. It's fixed now ...it will just take a short while for gallery changes to sync.
This reminds me of that old primary grade art class technique with the crayons. You coloured a bright design and then went over it with black crayons. Then you scratched a design into it to reveal the colours. Anyone else remember that? TLC984 Tangled Thanks by Dockside at Splitcoaststampers

Yes - we had something very similar as a challenge from Anita a few years ago, only instead of scratching, it was using embossing folders : TLC844 ~Scratch Embossing~(04/26/2021) by snietje at Splitcoaststampers . If I recall, I didn't much better with the scratch paper she sent me than with my DIY version, but it did work.
