First things first

Do you remember the moment when you saw heat embossing for the first time? I do! It was magical! My demonstrator charged me $25 for a class to learn embossing. I gladly paid it...and scorched some papers learning how to do it. Anybody else do that? Embossing still gives me a little something-something every time I do it. Back to my story...
I got a card from a girl... It was a black gate-fold graduation announcement with gold embossing on the edges. It was the most elegant hand-made card I had seen up to that moment. I hounded that girl to show me how to do it. (She didn't charge me $25 to learn it...)
Since we are about to enter the magical time of the year, I thought a magical technique would be appropriate. You can add a little elegance to a few special Christmas cards. I did something scary and made a video to show you how to do it. It was easier than explaining in writing. I don't make many videos and didn't edit (so it's quite rough), but it gets the idea across.
Emboss the Edges Video I certainly won't be charging you $25 to watch. The basic idea is to drag it across your Versamark pad. The angle at which you drag it changes the effect you get. Straight up perpendicular to the ink pad gives you a fine, clean embossed edge.
Some quick tips:
For best results use a medium weight embossing powder. I used fine silver on one of my samples (with designer paper) so it barely shows in the photo, though it looks good in real life.
Double dip and do it twice if you need to.
This technique looks best on solid colors--especially dark, dramatic colors.
You can emboss straight or curved edges in this way, but the curved edges need to flow (like a circle or an oval). A flower probably wouldn't flow well.
We actually played with this technique back in 2012 with Joan Ervin. Joan had a few different tips for embossing the edges of die cuts.
