Happy April to you all!
Those of you who know me know I don't watch a lot of videos, so I'm not sure how this one ended up in my feed. I was thinking of featuring it last month, but since Lyn had just brought us the basketweave challenge, I thought it was too similar in terms of technique to feature just two weeks later. So here I am with it today...Since seeing it the first time, I've seen a couple of other videos featuring it, but I'll stick with Natasha Foote's as that's the one I first saw, and she keeps hers on the short side.
(assuming everyone can see the video, since I can see it when I edit my post but not at any other time).
What I found hardest was making sure to taper my "onions" as I saw them in tighter at the top and bottom. I made one piece before lunch and showed it to DH, who wondered why I was starting another one. "In case I can do it better" I said. And he did, when presented with them both after lunch, pick the second one out as marginally better.
In the end I made three cards. One using just black and white, easy-peasy and quick to finish.
One with colour sponged over it (make sure your pen is bleed-proof if you plan to do this!). This is my favourite of the three.
One I decided to colour each "onion" individually to add to the illusion of depth. Not sure how well I succeeded, though in real life the highlights are definitely paler red and not the white they look in the photo. I wouldn't recommend this option unless you have a lot of time spare, it was quite time-consuming but I was glad to have a Christmas card to add to my stash at the end of it, so it was worth it.
Remember to use the keyword TLC945 when you are uploading. It's helpful if you come back and leave a link on this thread, especially in case you made a typo and people may not find your card.
If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread. 2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link. 3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on) 4. Click EDIT. Click COPY 5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
I saw Natasha's video before and really wanted to try it. Never got around to it, so maybe this is the week! I'm going to have back surgery on May 15th so I'm trying to have as much fun as I can before then! I love your samples!
all of the cards are simply gorgeous. I found Natasha Footes you tube video some time ago, and have made countless cards using that technique.Since then, I found other Zentangle designs, and now I'm hooked. I'm also thinking: who needs designer background paper when you can create your own?? (this doesn't mean I'll stop buying/using DS papers... just a thought. LOL)
