I'm so glad I got to try these! I was surprised that these big washers were 4 for $.99 at Fred Meyer. I have two more in progress, but here are my first attempts:
Aw, fudge! What am I doing wrong??
Bought washers - check
Traced onto pattern paper - check
Cut out paper and glued to washer with e6000 - check
Sanded edges - check
Put one coat of glossy mod podge on with a sponge brush - NO check! It dried stuck to the paper plate I was using to catch the mess and also has 'brush' strokes showing. Ugh. Do I just need to add more layers?? Should I just switch to Crystal Effects and forget the mod podge?? So bummed.... Haven't really had time to play much, so maybe I just need to back off for a bit until I do have time to actually sit down and work on them....
Toni, I really love the look with the clear EP over the washer and it is easy to do. I didn't try with the Mod podge at all so I am not sure how it turns out...
Put more Mod Pod on the brush it stops the brush strokes from showing, but I did do it the other way too, and it looked great with the pattern it made.
I used a xyron sticker maker to run the washers through first and didn't have to use glue just put it straight onto the paper.

Oo!! Another use for my little 'baby' Xyron!! Thanks for the idea!! (I HATE the smell of the e6000 glue!!)
I ended up just putting a layer of Crystal Effects on them all....turned out very nice! Now I just need to go back through this thread and see what ideas there are for finishing the edges - that's the only thing I 'don't' like about them! ;)
I have made some of the beautiful washer pendants. I can't believe how easy they are and they're all so different.
My problem is: I bought some cording from Michael's, it has little spring like clasp to put on the end of the cording. How do you keep the spring on, do you squeeze it with pliers. There were no instructions and I'm stumped. Please help!

I too used modge podge because I didn't have any of the other products listed. I used a Popsicle stick and put a whole bunch on. Went on smooth and no marks but did take a full 24 hours to dry.
I made these using Ranger glossy accents and loved the result until.... I made them before the holidays and set aside, after Christmas I was showing one to my daughter and noticed the finish became dull after handling. I thought maybe I had something on my hands I didn't notice and tried polishing with a soft glasses polishing cloth and still a dull finish. I picked up a second one and the same thing happened when I touched the finished front. I know they were completely dry as they had sat untouched for several weeks. I do love this idea and my daughter loved them but once the shiney finish is dull they just don't have that same pop. I'm hoping to salvage the rest of the batch by coating with some clear acrylic spray. I'm wondering if anyone found the same thing happening with embossing powder? Does the finish dry "harder" than the glossy accents?
i jsut came back to this thread. I made 2 last night, I put crystal effects over top the dp. I fell like it is a bit soft and will dull when they are touched. I read through the thread and see this problem was just brought up at the end. What did anyone who noticed this problem do? I was wondering if there is something similar to Crystal Effects but harder when dry? anyone know?

Can anyone tell me the size washers you used. I bought some last night and the big ones seem so heavy and the smaller ones seem too small. Any ideas? I bought them at Home Depot.
I think mine are 3/4" with a 1/4" hole. they are a bit small. Sorry I dont' have the pictures posted yet. I just grabbed a box we had in the garage. I was thinking of going to the hardware store today and buying a variety of sizes. I am going to take a piece of cs punched with various size holes so I know my punches will work on the ones I choose.
I don't think the size matters, and I think it is a matter of taste. Some people like to wear big jewelry, I prefer small. I am also giving these as gifts to my dd and ds's friends they are 15 and 12 so small will work better for me.
One thinkg i can say for sure, these are addicting to make.

the possibilities are endless, and I am not that imaginative (can you say #1 CASEr?) I have spent a good part of the day making these - when I can steal away from my family.
I will post pictures tomorrow if I can stop long enough to take a picture. I have so many more ideas.
Can anybody tell me where to find the cords that are already assembled? I just want a simple brown or black cord, and I don't want to have to worry with assembling the clasp on them. Is it possible to buy them like this?
look at walmart too. I have found both brown and black with clasps there. Unfortunately, they aren't as long as I like.
I bought a black cording in some jewelry making aisle somewhere, it is like plastic. I wanted to wear one of my washer-pendants last night so I put a clasp on it. Yuck it kept moving and then sticking to my neck during the night. won't use that again.
I finally got a chance (and had a reason) to try these out! There are pictures of the whole set (necklace and earrings), and the pendant and earrings separately. Thanks for a great challenge, and thanks for looking!
I found a site that sells all the supplies - the silver plated bails, the 1" glass tiles, even silver plated ball necklaces. Their prices are great, too, even shipping is reasonable. The company is called United Crafters and they're located in FL. Has anyone dealt with them? Are they legit?
