I wasn't sure what I would do with this challenge at first, but it was really fun! Thanks for the great idea...as always! I've really enjoyed checking out everyone's creations in the gallery too. TFS. Here's mine...
This reminds me of a bad joke. May I share?
This piece of ribbon walks into a bar and orders a drink. The bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve ribbon here".
So, the piece of ribbon goes outside, freys it's ends, ties itself in a knot and goes back inside the bar. She tries to order another drink and the bartender says, "Hey, aren't you that piece of ribbon I just kicked out of here?" and the ribbon replies "I'm afraid not!" (Get it? A freyed knot?)
I'd better go try this technique before you all kick me off SCS!
Here's my Barbie card---the ribbon looks like Barbie hair after being played with once! Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
Thanks for the tutorial with photos--that's the only way to do it!!!!!
What a cool looking technique. Then you can have SU color matching fiber. BTW, Chris you were close to spelling selvedge correctly. You just forgot the silent "d". Thanks for a very helpful tutorial. Nancy
And can anyone answer this burning question: do giraffe's have mane? I think they do -- at least mine does. The poor giraffe in Wild About You is bald...
Here is mine for the frayed ribbon technique. This was fun. ROSES

Here is mine!!! I made this for my Dad who had his pacemaker replaced today. He is home resting and doing well!! He can tell the difference already in the voltage.....I keep telling him he has a *shocking* personality...ok, bad joke........LOL!!
OK, I know everyone is probably already done with this, but you can fray the ribbon without trimming off one of the edges. Just pull one of the loose threads that comes off of the end of the ribbon, and you can unravel the whole thing! (This only works from one end, so if it doesn't work from one end, try the other.)

Thanks! I just tried it and it totally works. I really liked the look of the frayed ribbon, so I'll be using your tip next time I do it (way less messy too!)
I am not sure how, but this card totally disappeared from the gallery! Here is my second attempt to upload it. Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
